Why do some sneakers cost so much?

This question is something that gets asked on the regular. Shoes have different values based on how rare they are or in some cases how old they are. Most of the vintage models become collector items or the shoe is no longer made and hard to find making the shoe valuable in the market place. Some shoes cost a lot because the number of shoes made were very small, which means it’s impossible for everyone in the "Shoe Game" to get a pair when released. For example, it might be a shoe released in NYC and Cali with only a total of 500 pairs made, this makes the release super rare! This leaves the rest of the world with no chance of getting a shot at going to the release. Now the shoe is in high demand which makes the shoe more valuable in the market place.

Okay, now you decide you want a pair and retail was $200, but of course no one is going to sell you a pair for retail. You go to eBay or your favorite website and they’re selling for $550 to $600. Who’s determines what they go for on the resell market? The buyers of course, but due to how much HYPE the shoe had it’s hard to tell what the price will be. Just think it’s only 500 pairs made and you got 500 people in your local area. In other words you got tons of people in the "Shoe Game" all over the world that want a pair too, and bottom line, it’s impossible for everyone to own a pair. You also have some shoes that are never released to the public which will always make the shoe highly sought after.

You also have samples that are sometimes available giving you a chance to have them 6-8 months early, so of course you’ll pay more. Sometimes you have samples made that are set to be released, but later they get cancelled leaving only a few sample pairs floating around. In other cases it might be a sample made just for testing purposes and it gets out of the lab with only 1 or 2 made. We all know why this shoe is going to be so valuable and have people willing to pay a large price to get them. It really just depends on how rare, limited, hype, and type of shoe it is. Hype on a shoe can be good or bad, but just like everything else outside of the "Shoe Game" Hype will always be around.

Just think about Hype for a second it’s used on movies, music, stores, cars, clothes, electronics, schools, and the list goes on. Basically, this type of method will always be around. As far as the "Shoe Game" goes and the prices, it just depends on how bad someone wants the shoe whether it’s due to hype, rare, limited, super exclusive, or how much someone really likes the shoe. If you like it "buy it" and if it’s too much for you "don’t buy it", but get the shoe cause you like it NOT cause everyone else likes it.
