1990 vs 2009 Raiders Nike Air Trainer SC
Yesterday, TheShoeGame broke the news about the 34 returning on the Bo Jackson Air Trainer SC High. As promised, here’s the 1990 vs 2009 Raiders Nike Air Trainer SC comparison.

As you saw in the video, there are several differences from the 1990 and 2009 version. The 1997 Raiders Air Trainer SC High is the closet version to the original make up (minus the 34). I personally would’ve have preferred Nike to re-release the 1997 version with or without the 34.
I’m well aware that most retro’s return with minor changes, but this retro is just off when compared to the originals. It’s going to take some getting use to seeing the “34″ on the back of the 2009 retro. Honestly, it feels good knowing you can rock a pair of wearable Bo Jackson’s with the 34 on the back. I just wish they were closer to the OG’s or 1997 retro, since the 09’s are obviously off. No matter how you look at it, the return of the 34 is a BIG deal. It’s like Jordan Brand bringing back the “Nike Air”.
In closing, I’d like to say in 1990 “Bo Knows”, but the 2009 retro equals “Bo No’s”. A nice shoe nonetheless, and it’s all about what YOU like. For the record, I got a pair of the 2009 retro’s (Thanks, Nike Lenox!) and I’m going to eventually wear them since both of my OG’s are only good for collectors items. At the end of the day, I was really really excited when I heard the 34 was coming back, but I was later disappointed when I laid eyes on the 2009 retro. I felt like a child on Christmas morning that didn’t get the gift they wanted. So sad, but true!
As stated before, the 2009 Raiders Air Trainer SC High 34 is now starting to arrive at Nike retailers. Retail, $105.

Dang I can’t see the vid at work, but right off…these ARE a pretty weak facsimile of the OGs….no suede I could deal with…even the different “netting” but dang no recessed Nike on the tongue( is it 3m??)…no ankle mold?? WTF? Those are simple things to pick up from the OG. Either way I am still trying to cop but yea it’s like you said kinda disappointing. I remember asking you about these right before you dropped the news about them coming back….*sigh* lol

The OG’s shit on the retros. It’s like MJ vs. Harold Miner. That suede/wrinkled leather is so sexy it’s not even funny. Might be MY personal favorite sneaker ever. So as much as the smooth leather pisses me off(it works much better with the white/orange/blue ones)I’ll probably buy them anyway which sadly is why Nike aint gonna change the bullshit they’re doing…spending less money to make more.
I’m still getting a pair, but that tumbled leather is look oh so nice on the OG’s.
Wow all this does is prove how the quality gets worst throughout the years i knew it was a difference in the og and the 2009 retro but man they really strayed away from it lol terrible terrible terrible but imma hypocrite i would still buy em and plan on buying nike better be lucky imma sucker for the shoes
They definitely took some liberties with the retros. But that’s putting it lightly. Still, it’s not a bad shoe. I like how it looks.

Thx for the breakdown G-Roc! I had the the OG’s but I was not a Collector back then. Almost all of my O.G Heat from 80’s to about 2006 was stolen or ran into the ground! Retro’s have their place, I’m not going to try to replace everything at 300-2000 a pop! I like to wear my kicks, albeit some much less than others. With that said I will grab a pair no doubt!

Yea G that worked (how you know?)! G-Roc know dem Bo’s (said in my best Luda voice). On second sight, those 97s weren’t that bad even without the 34 (pebbled/tumbled leather, suede, etc…ahhh), but yea they are kinda disrespectful throwing the 34 on these joints…I would have rathered they put it on the Auburns and tried something new

Great work G & TSG in comparing the OGs to the retros!
The appeal of OG’s, to me at least, is the textured look that comes from the materials being beaten to death over a long time. So while these retro’s ARE for sure a different material, given time hitting the bricks in these in all kinds of weather, so the shoe can “break down,” a bit, they’ll start to take on that beautiful, aged look that makes it way easier to look down at a pair of 2009 retro’s and instantly make the connection to the older non-wearable OG’s……

YO! G ROC can you give us an estimated time or a educated guess. When they are going to release those Nike Trainer Max 91′ Bo Jackson’s I’m looking forward to those joints. So any news you can get on them is good news. Hopefully Nike is going to be keeping Bo Jackson’s in rotation until they drop.

the ogs just have something the retros don’t have the most noticeable thing would be better quality but there is also that feel of old sneakers on your feet sure fresh looking kicks could never steer you wrong but Ogs are definitely not just an old pair of shoes

Thanks G-Roc. I’m glad to see that you didn’t get rid of your OG 1990’s like I did. I’m glad that you captured the fiber straps on the side with the clear plastic over them as I mentioned yesterday. Man, I need to find those OG’s. I would like to have those to complete my Raider collection of Bo’s. Man, I remember it like my Freshman year. Thanks. Those pictures are refreshing. good looks on the vid. as a recent owner of a pair of 97 retros, you just really get a whole new perspective on things. That 97 retro had some of the softest tumbled leather and suedes I have ever seen or felt. Then you compare to the NOW. You are dishonoring and straight up kicking Bo Jackson in the balls with this move. It’s nothing new though as mostly ALL 2004-2009 sc trainers have been terrible mediocre quality. The fun stopped in 2003 along with the great colors.. now the great colors are back, but the material degradation is as present as ever. Im all for nostaglia most of the time, but I would rather wear some beat up yellowed adidas no namers than to have those on my feet. They arent “Bo’s”. I’d rather wear no Bo’s than these fake Bo’s. peace

I remember the OG’s definitely my grail as they were the first “real” pair of kicks my mom bought me. Never forget them…if I only I could find a DS pair. The thing is back in 1990 when these came out they cost $130. Typically inflation comes into play but no one is willing to pay more than that for shoes ever. So they keep the same price point but the cost of leather has risen so they have to compromise the quality…sad. They should have just retro’d the originals and charge $250…definitely a pick up for me.
