Asics Ronnie Fieg Gel Lyte lll “Navy-Aqua” Release Recap

Last Tuesday, June 15, 2010 was the long awaited release of Ronnie Fieg’s Gel Lyte lll “Navy-Aqua”. Not only was it the release of these beauties to 252 pairs, but it was also his birthday. So, to celebrate it, the David Z designer released these on that special day. More images of the launch at the David Z flagship store and some news on his next 2 Asics shoes…

Just like the Super Reds, Ronnie again released only 252 pairs of this collaboration. The store only got a handful, whereas online got the bulk of it. Unfortunately, mixed numbers were given at the store and his Twitter account. So, I’ll just say a little more than a handful were at the David Z flagship store.

As you can see, a few sneaker enthusiasts where there already in the morning, including yours truly who was first on line (I’m not pictured). You can also see a fan wearing Ronnie’s most recent release, the Asics “Super Reds” from his signature series that starts with the word, Super. That shoe being number two after the Asics “Super Blue” of 2008.

The moment of truth! Thanks to Ronnie B. above, waiting for the store to open was cut short. He opened about half an hour early to get these bad boys into the hands of those on line outside. Here are the first four boxes with the special Navy Asics Sport Style bag freebie. A nice added bonus, just because and yes, they were gone within minutes. Right after Ronnie B. opened, more folks showed up real quick to sweep these away. Someone even bought six pairs.

If you didn’t make it to the store, you still had the opportunity to grab a pair online at 10:00am on the dot. If you were watching my twitter and Ronnie’s Twitter, you would’ve came across update’s the minute they hit the online retail store. When they did hit, they sold 211 in two minutes. Taking the crown away from the Super Reds that sold out in 4 minutes. They sold out so fast, that the cart couldn’t even register the orders correctly and over sold pairs.

The shoes sold so quick it didnt register fast enough to take the sizes down. Sold “384? pairs in 4 min. The first 252 people will get their pairs. be patient.

The shoe itself comes in premium materials of a Navy/Aqua color on nubuck suede and mesh. Mesh being an unexpected surprise, but a very welcomed one. That’s because Ronnie is known for putting a perf toe-box on most of his recent Asics’s collaborations. Next is a Navy/Aqua midsole, mixed with an off white color for the front and heel parts of the same area. You then get off white suede on the back ankle panel and lastly, you get three pairs of laces. One in Navy, White, and Off White. All this for the price of $105.00, not $150 or up like you would expect other brand collaborations to go for.

To all that got a pair and wanted it like I did, congrats. For those that missed out, better luck next time around. For the people that underrated this release or don’t care for this brand, proper footwear comes from all angles. This one being a perfect example.

Forecast: What’s Coming Next?

If you didn’t get a pair of these or if you missed out on the Super Reds, not all is lost. Ronnie stated in a exclusive interview that we will get two more Asics from him. You can expect another Asics Gel Lyte lll sometime in August and another Asics shoe at a later date. As for the one coming in August, Ronnie has stated that it will be based on a trip he took to the Bahamas. There, he got enamored by the environment and started to take notes of the ‘influences of his surroundings’.
