Confessions of a Sneaker Addict – Part 21

Everyone who collects sneakers or just has a desire to always have the latest kicks knows about multiple trends that are evident among the sneaker culture. Whether they are the hotness or the wackness is up for debate, but the reality is that they are apparent among many people today whether it be the casuals, the shoe collectors, the heat rockers, the celebrities, the kids, the adults, just about anyone you can think of. Now, without any further ado, does the following confession apply to you?
Mix & Match
It seems like it’s been a while for COASA, but it’s time to get back into the swing of things. First Wednesday of every month, COASA. Now where were we?
Ah yes, the good ole’ mix and match. For those who don’t know exactly what this is, please turn attention to the picture above of Chuck English. Essentially, it’s grabbing two different shoes and throwing them on the feet.
There are many mixed opinions of this, just like customizing sneakers. Some see it as wack, some see it as hot, but for a slew of different reasons. There are rebuttals to every point people make when they wear two different sneaks, but it’s something that is talked about whenever a picture of someone rocking two different kicks arises.
Here’s a list of reasons/rebuttals I’ve read and heard about this trend or lack thereof:
Let’s me show multiple rare sneakers at once without having to switch pairs.
Go to a sneaker convention, mall, or wherever, people want to break necks. What better way to break necks then bring out two dope kicks instead of one? The extraocular muscles in people’s eyes won’t be able to handle looking back and forth due to the fact they’ve been bestowed upon two hot sneakers. Two birds.
However… Is it really that big of a deal? Showing off is cool and all, nearly all sneaker addict does it whether they know it or not, but can’t it become overkill? On one hand, some may look like they are showing some dope kicks, on the other, someone is just trying to show how “cool” they are having hard to obtain sneakers.
Goes with the outfit.
Got multiple colors on my ‘fit, plenty of abstract colors with a diversified color scheme that one shoe just couldn’t tackle. All in all, the outfit needed some help.
However… If it takes two shoes to complete an outfit, maybe there is some overkill going on. In other words, it’s the wackness.
It’s part of a pack.
There were two sneakers in the *insert pack name here*, might as well wear both of them to show I have it. It’s also part of a theme, so it essentially goes together. There are some pairs of shoes that come with two different sneakers that share similar themes, this is roughly the same thing.
However… If they didn’t come in the same exact box, there’s a reason for that. By same box, we mean same box. Not a bundle of dual boxes constructed together, but one shoe box, two shoes. Plus, it looks lame.
They’re my shoes.
Who’s to tell me what I can and can’t wear, I bought them, they’re mine.
However… I got nothing…
It’s mix-match day.
What better way to dress differently then wear different sneakers.
However… Got nothing for this one either…
It’s a two-sided occasion, is it hot or not? The lines have been drawn, some people think different shoes is the truth, some think it’s dumb. Choose your side.
How do you feel about people wearing two separate shoes in one occasion? Which combinations have you seen in person that people have worn?

The only Pair of shoes you should mix and match is one pair of G-Roc’s 1/23 Concords (which I still believe should have came with a purple jacket but whatever) and a general release Concord Mix & Match in the words of Kay Williams is “not pimpin” leave it to the what the dunks,
The last time I did that was 15years ago.. lol my dad was like wtf lol.. to me its def playout for an adult to that, but imo if a young buck want to have his shine its all good cuz I really don’t pay them no mind…
Maybe I’ll rock a dmp 6 and dmp 11. Jk, that’ll be like rockin my pants backwards.
Never thought about doing it and don’t plan on it. If someone insist on doing this trend, got to be the same sneaker in different colorways.
Example
1 spacejam 11 & 1 concord 11.
1 white cement 3 & 1 black cement 3.
Naa… never liked the look of two different kix at once. The point is to look good without appearing that you are trying to hard. You’re trying too hard if you do this move.
I did it as a teenager back in 1993 with the Aqua and Playoff Jordan 8s. I rocked the two different sides on vacation in England and everybody was watching my feet like “WTF”? I’m grown now, so even if I feel like doing it, I’d feel like a self-conscious showoff doing it. For me, it’s a no-no.
I WILL NEVER EVER DO IT, SEEN SOMEONE WEARING LEBRON 9 CHINAS AND CANNONS. I THOUGHT IT LOOKED STUPID FOR REAL.
Lol, I wore one red & black dunk shoe with one Black Cement 3 shoe by mistake, I only glanced at the shoes before I put them on and I thought my dunks were the once I was putting on since I had worn them earlier that day, but thankfully I was just going to the store two minutes away to get some snacks so no one saw me, cuz honestly it´s kind of corny.
1 timberland 1 ugg boot, 1 g unit sneaker 1 master p sneaker.
Share some of the gay with AIDs…
HAHAHAHA @EXECUTIVE………
yeah i did this in the early 90s with chuck taylors…i was young and dumb then and hey…it was the freakin 90s maaan!! But now no way! I agree that they paid the money for them so they can do what they want…but it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t look stupid as hell! I’ve seen this a few times but the most recent was at SF2011 when a dude had on a Lebron 8 Sprite on one foot and on the other the Solar Red Brons…I got the point of it cause it was two early releases but they in no way looked good together. But to each his/her own
Super tacky….
I’d only do it if they were close to or similar to each other in color and style and only to take a picture not to wear out and about
I feel like this is equivalent to several popped collar polos.
You may be cool, but you’re not 4 popped collars cool. (http://bit.ly/AiZIPx)
i got both laser IVs white & black both pairs got red laces. i might rock one of each to class tonight? YAY or NAY???
I’m too old to do it myself…I did it back when when I was in school tho
But for the kids..eh! Do what you want. Just make sure you’re doing it for you and not for someone else.
Create your own style. Nothing wrong with that.
I rocked that mix match in the picture last year. Some people hate it some, liked it but at the end of the day I was happy with it, so does it matter what others think?
The best mix n match that I ever saw was the white/blue 18 with the white/red 18
I think it’s cool with the same sneaker dif. color like the pic up there but dif. sneaker dif. color is way too tacky
Example: Chris Brown in Holla @ Me
thunder and lightening jordan 4s.
@djbk4lyf: that is probably the best combo i can think of, but i am still too old to do it…
i’ve done it before . . . when i was like 15. one white reebok classic and one black reebok classic. lol. true story though. wow, that was over a decade ago. smh, i’m aging.
~
*however* the concept is lame. especially when one sees an alledged ‘sneakerhead’ wearing something really rare like one ‘pink lady’ (black/pink) yeezy and one ‘birthday cake’ (net c/w;they released on his b-day weekend) yeezy. does one really want to put oneself out like that?
It’s like my pops told me long ago, never wear your suit jacket without your suit pants…and vice versa. More than the different color kicks bothers me, it’s the fact that you are putting miles on one shoe while the other sits in the box…and don’t let it have a clear sole…ay dios mio
Ive only mix matched my sneakers one time and that was way back in jr high school. I had all the 11′s at the time. The concords, space jams, and colombias. So I had this rocawear outfit that was hot at the time and I wore one concord 11 and one space jam 11. That was the last time I eva did that
I wouldnt do it eva again, but I have no problem with people who decide t do it. Especially if its a dope mix.
I’d rock a Bordeux and a Sandal
It’s SOOOOOOOO TACKY!
“The best mix n match that I ever saw was the white/blue 18 with the white/red 18″… OK, now if it’s OLYMPICS season or the 4th of July I’d give that a pass with appropriately theme’d attire!
Apart from that I honestly do think it is NOT to each his own! I once heard that when a state does not require the use of a helmet when riding a motorcycle… it’s because they don’t care about their stupid people! I care about my stupid people… they should be FORCED to choose one or the other!
However.. I got nothing! LoL…
its gay. if you do it you look like a total gay. you’re gonna see and hear people laughing and be totally paranoid its about you and your gay mix matched shoes you thought were gonna be so cool when you were looking in the mirror in your bedroom. and you’ll be right, most of those people are like “look at this jackass with two different shoes on. he looks like a real son of a bitch!” don’t be an assface… stay humble, wear nice (matching) shoes but never be the one to bring it up, and if you ever have doubts about wearing something you suspect may make you look extra faggy, remember that your paranoia is going to magnify 10x once you’re out and about, so dont do it.
I dunno if Boston is just too white ‘n catholic but I don’t see a lot of this here. I also don’t have this issue yet… But unless it was a really seamless mix ‘n match I’d prolly look at it as insecure ‘n tacky.
As I build my collection I do it for me tho, so I get that side of it to.
At the end of the day it just sounds like the person who mix ‘n matches that’s a douchebag will look like a douchebag. And the kid who think it just looks good and is a cool kid, will continue to be. Attitude is everything.
one royal blue foam, one metallic red foam. DR or PR parade anyone?
D
CHECK I WOULD MIX AND MATCH SNEAKERS, BUT THE ONLY DIFFERENCE WOULD BE THE BACK OF THE SNEAKER. TAKE FOR EXAMPLE THE AIR JORDAN 3 BLACK/CEMENT CDP. AND THE RETRO JOINTS WITH NIKE AIR ON THE BACK. THAT I WOULD ROCK AND NOBODY COULD TELL THE DIFFERENCE UNLESS THEY LOOK AT THE BACK AND BY THAT TIME WHO CARES WHAT THEY THINK CAUSE YOU GOT YOUR BACK TO THEM…”EXCUSE MY BACK”
I Personally never mix n’ matched before, but if i was to do it i would probably mix n’ match the Taxi 12′s with the Playoff 12′s.
did the 6′s….carmines and the black retros…was cool around the house but not for public consumption lol
True blue and cement 3s done I’m old and don’t give a fuck. I do it buy I din think anyone notices so similar
