Foamposite Land Debate: DC vs NYC
After reading the comments in the Wale x Nike Copper Foamposite post, I decided to make an official “Foamposite Land” debate post. The ongoing debate about who’s responsible for putting the Foamposite on the map can continue.
It all started when I said Wale was from “Foamposite land”, and I was only going off what I’ve heard for years about the DC area and their love for Foamposites. Wale himself even said in our interview at the 3:00 mark that in DC the Foamposite is the shoe of choice. However, the Foamposite land tagline started a rather interesting debate between DMV and NYC heads.
TSG has nothing but love for DMV and NYC. As a matter of fact, we love everybody! There’s nothing wrong with opinions, and that’s the purpose of the comments section. Perhaps everyone can find some closure about this topic. At the end of the day, rock Foamposites because you like them, and rock them well!
Hopefully, everyone can conduct themselves in a mature manner as this debate continues. People from DMV, NYC, and anyone else that wants to contribute to this debate, feel free to drop your thoughts in the comments.

Mike Bibby put the Foamposites on the map in the 1997 Final Four. He was the very 1st to rock ‘em, before everybody, even Penny himself. I’m sure he got them cuz he was the best player on the team that eventually won the title, and is a Nike sponsored school.

ok so I have lived in PG County Maryland and I’m from Brooklyn NYC. I would agree that D.C. and the surrounding Maryland area which PG County is the majority of from a culture standpoint is definitely Foamposite Land. The reason for this is GoGo culture especially there style of dress.

My homeboys cousin came down to Atlanta fom DC and he had on some foams with tall ass socks and I thought he was from another planet. You can tell DMV o’s foamposite land cause they rock flightpisites with the zipper and KG’s and Griffey Posites even those nasty ass foamposite iii’s with the bug eyes. Foamposites were NOT Popular in NY when they 1st came out, and are barely a big deal in NY now (Overall)…At one point (back in the day) Foamposites (both Pro and Pennys were on sale for ridulous sale prices up here). They were NOT a hit in NY.

I’m from NY. We’ve ALWAYS rocked Foamposites 1s and Pros. All other Penny joints are lesser shoes to me, though just as dope to many others. I’ve also spent time in the DMV. That trio of states has always been known for rocking New Balances as far as I know, and honestly, I can’t recall seeing many folk rock Foamposites when I’ve visited. The reality is that, if there’s something hot, NY will likely have access to it and be all over it before the south even has a chance to embrace it. For all we know though, NY and the DMV have been simultaneously killing Foamposites since they were introduced to the world. How ’bout we all just enjoy these Coppers when they drop.

So although the demand for AF1s may have been higher coming out of NYC and making ya’ll come down 95 to cop…Bmore flavor created the style (two tones and all that…Mr. Shoe)…so does that make them AF1-land? Careful how you answer that, because if you still lay claim to AF1’s because you “made them mainstream” then it doesn’t matter where the Foams were rocked first because DC “made them mainstream” and we would be Foamland…Truthfully you all can have FoamCity cuz we are definitely “PositeLand” hands down. As for the FoamDome, Nike Boot, ACG discussion…I think everyone was rocking regular ACG kicks…trail, hiking, and all that but when it came time for the Nike Goadome boot to drop…well the interview buddy posted in the Wale thread told you everything…when the designer of the shoe says it…it’s gospel people so that’s not even a debate. Foams have been kinda part of our dress code in DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Matter of fact I went to Jamaica this past summer for SumFest and guy walked up to me and was like “you from DC?” I said yeah. After I graduated high school I had all the Foam Pros except the white ones that means yes I own the voltages. Foamposites were NOT Popular in NY when they 1st came out, and are barely a big deal in NY now (Overall)…At one point (back in the day) Foamposites (both Pro and Pennys were on sale for ridulous sale prices up here). They were NOT a hit in NY.

I am from NYC and I didn’t know about the foams until I moved to the DMV. DC is definitely Foamposite land. Just like NY is just now hopping on the Nike boots, the DMV been rocking those.

2nd: The District is not a state (social studies/geography 101)…and if you have ever been OT or outta ya borrough in NYC you would know that the DC-Metropolitan area is comprised of Northern VA, MD, and DC to comprise an area about equal in size (of land) to NYC, and nationally recognized as such. So this is a very fair matchup.
You don’t have to leave to know what DMV stands for. MD and VA are states. I don’t think DC is a district anymore and is now a city in MD. So 2 states and a city vs 1 city, landmass does not mater. DMV also includes west VA.

I’m from Bed-Stuy Brooklyn and I can say I personally have LOVED foams and flights since they dropped in the 90’s. I’m an avid foam collector to this day. Mad heads out here do wear foams and flights out here, but most of them are hypebeasts and bandwagon jumpers which is why I was unable to get the HOH pearl foams in April. Never been to DMV, but I can vouch for NYC and say a lot of people out here do own (not love) foams.
I use to be a GM for Finish line I ran a store in the DC area and NY area and per capital (meaning per person) DC area sells more foams and Nike boots ask any Nike sales rep or ekin. In the DMV foams sell like air force ones do in the NY. When I was in college in NC none of the dudes from NY rocked foams but all the DC dudes stayed with foams.
