Gourmet Summer 2008 Footwear Line Up
Even though we have never reported on Gourmet until now, surely you’ve seen or at least heard about the kicks that favor Jordans. Gourmet released their first collection last year, and they will release more footwear in 2008. They will drop some bright canvas colors for the heated Summer days as well as some simple hues. I know for sure I dont like the XI’s even the VII’s are iffy.
But the XII and XIII are starting to grow on me the more i see them…but them prices for a canvas shoe..ugh.

I’m curious to see how TSG readers and the sneaker culture feels about Gourmet sneakers. They received a warm welcome from the streetwear scene, and a lot of stores sold out of their Holiday release.
i dont know what to think about them. its like how bape copied the af1 and these copy the air jordan xi xiii vii xii. i like some of the colors. my vote is a little bit.
i feelin the red and blue……sick! jus try to look @ it as another sneaker and forget it had been depicted from a jordan.

I like them bringing a more casual look to classic athletic sneakers, however they need to lower their prices and come up with at least one original design of their own.

^^ First off these aren’t “FAKES!!” so all the 14 year olds who just got into J’s because Hypebeast told em to do so, they should stop screaming about how these are rip-offs!!! BAPE and Greedy Genuius took the AF1 silouette and re-worked it (all the AF1 nuthuggers say BAPE ripped it off, while the people who actually understand anything about fashion know that NOTHING is an original….EVERYTHING took elements/ideas from somewhere to end up as a final product….J’s included!!)
Any how, BAPE and G.G. did it with the AF1 model, and now Gourmet’s doing it….it’s not a crime, and it’s not Gourmet trying to throw Jordan look alikes out there to make a profit. MADFOOT has been doing it for years…..and they openly admit that they’re all HUGE Jordan fans, so they re-interpreted J’s AS A WAY TO PAY HOMAGE AND RESPECT!!! (Mad Monty Hi’s look like V’s, Mad Professor’s hi’s look like I’s, so on and so forth…and they just released some Mad Professor low’s in the most popular Dunk SB colorways….both OG Supreme colors, Aloha’s, De La’s…etc.) If these Gourmet joints were bootleg Spongebob/clear Jordan IV’s like I see idiots wearing, then I’d be on here roasting these too….but they’re not. We should be happy people are paying homage to MJ this way….IT’S A SIGN OF RESPECT PEOPLE!!!

Man, wid this 1 it’s a personal thing. I could see OG collector’s not feeling cause of the authenticity factor as in not being officially made by Jordan. At the same though, SOMEBODY gonna be feeling enough to catch. It’s funny to me that these are coming out at 140/150 with Jordan retro’s coming out 135. Interesting marketing strategy there price-wise at least. Ima go ahead and vote a yes though just cause they brave enough to come out with and push (pretty hard) this concept. Watch out though, this could start a new era in “boot-legging” of classic shoes though….

This idea is not original. It is a copy and an attempt to gain attention and money from anther’s ideas/hard work. Not to mention my favorite thing in this world.
J’s being “influenced” from something i.e. the XIII from the Panther, the XII from the Japanese flag, the XIV from the Ferrari, the XV from the X-15 etc etc are just that…INFLUENCE.

Use materials from J’s, like patent leather. And when asked about it, say “I’m paying homage to the AJ XI, I love that sneak”.
But don’t just go and copy the dang shoe and put your name on it.
And just because it’s not illegal, doesn’t make it right.

I was basically saying the same thing as you just said…..everything comes from an INFLUENCE. Now certain shit may come out with so many similarities that it looks like the people producing it are just straight ripping it off (and since we’re just consumers and not at the drawing board with the designers, we’ll nevr really know if it WAS or WASN’T a straight rip-off.)
I’ve been following BAPE since ‘95 and I agree….it looks like they just switched up an AF1…..and if you guys in the states don’t know, there’s kicks from two companies (BackChannel and Product) that look just like AF1’s too…so I completely agree about there being copycats out there…..
MADFOOT…..completely different…..and I think my hostility came across mostly cause I rock alot of MADFOOT and know the owners and their intentions. The color blocking is done to pay respect to some of the “greatest” kicks of all time…..however, if anyone saw a pair of MADFOOT’s in all white, you’d never be able to call em rip-off J’s….Madfoot look like 80’s shitty leather sneaks you’d find in the back of K-Mart for $12.00 a pair. The owners of MADFOOT are HUGE Jordan fans, and wanted to do kicks in J colorways and the colorways some of the super limited American releases.
These Gourmets……to me these look like someone ripped the Swoosh off some J’s…..so I wasn’t even defending these!!! Bape just came out with a new model not looking very like any other brand’s shoe. but gourmet have taken the upper design from 4(!!!!) Jordan models.. that aint cool. the sneakers are cool but thats because it is soooo like the jordans!:P
In my opinion this is the same thing as when we were all little kids and picway and payless used to always have some jordan copies.
This is just what the game is coming to. It started off as wearing athletic shoes as fashion and now somehow we have gotten to this. A bunch of whack brands copying the classics. Yes Js got inspiration from other places but they never just blatantly ripped off another shoe that was out there and established as a classic.
But whatever they arent going anywhere. And regardless what all of us that hate them think they are selling well. I just wanted to vent my opinion on their lameness.

This is what I’ve been working so hard at. Building a sneaker site that caters to OG shoe heads as well as newbie’s. If you wanna get educated, all you gotta do is read the comments. I love how we all can express how we feel without saying dumb comments that don’t even apply to the topic.(Ya’ll would be amazed at some of the comments that never make it thru moderation).
I def respect everyone’s point-of-view. I saw the Holiday stuff from Gourmet and didn’t bother to post it. I just knew the TSG fam would be ready to attck the comments section. However once I saw the Summer line up, I said I gotta post it. At the end of the day it’s def news. Soooo some people like and many dislike while some people kinda like.

Ive been peeping TSG for about 6 months now twice daily, but never posted anything till today. First of all, I wanna give props to G-roc and thank him for puttin the latest info on kix up. Now about these gourmet shoes……….. PLEASE STOP!!!!!! they are so bootsie and Ive even seen better looking bootlegs out there and I would never buy or wear either even if someone game me them. I am 25 with 150 pairs of nikes 90 are Js, therefore im not a newby or a hypebeast, just your major sneakerhead. Bape did copy nike however they came with smashing colorways and the patent leather is hard, rappers also put theyre hype on em. However these gourmets are just plain, wack colors and a sole that came out of left filed. In my opinion, Jordans are the tightest shoes ever made and I dont think other brands should try to make it off air jordan line. Just like on the court nothing will ever equal Jordan

i was checkin out pickyourshoes.com and i saw these on the homepage and i just thought they came out with retro urbanized versions of Js but i was surprised to see it was some other company. Personally and i hope nobody gonna count this against me but i do like these shoes because i like jordans. if i could id wear my cardinals with every thing but fact of the matter is my cardinals dont go with every thing i wear. im not hatin on the colorways of Js…they dopest around.
i just think that instead of showing hate at this company tryna bring a new look to a classic i think yall should embrace it. THESE ARE STRAIGHT UP LOOK-EXACT-A-LIKES but since they look like the jordans you truly adore then give the company props to bringing you some brand new kicks.

I personally like these shoes. I understand the argument that they are biting J’s super hard, but the fusion between the Jordan body and the Vans sole works well in my opinion. These have a clean look, and can be pulled off with all kinds of different fits. I’ll cop a pair and check em out.

idk man…its a tricky one, cuz i could easily call each jordan they copied, which upsets me. I definitely like the classic and more u kno suddle look for athletic sneakers which are usually flashy. These would definitely be more liked if they were taken under the wing of nike and air jordan, u kno, like JORDAN GOURMETS, because i actually like them, they are no doubt attractive, and if gourmet signed a deal with jordan there wud be crazy hype about these, because these are truly attractive. The pricing issue is a whole other story. Idk bout other places but pickyourshoes.com has them for 100.00 i mean thats fine, i wud be feeling 70 ish but i’d pay 100 for some i rly like. I only wonder if they attempt to do this with other companies as well, like trying to hit up on nike dunks or puma baskets. Overall, i wudnt deny these ever, but they need to rethink their strategy.

Im not gonna lie, when i first saw them a while back i thought oh no, but now they have really started to grow on me< i love the 7’s and the 11’s. i think it is an interesting spin on a classic shoe. i wouldnt at all call them fakes because that is not what they are going for, i think they make great shoes i can wear to the office on casual friday with some khaki pants and a Polo. i definatly would lower the price though, 100 and up is kinda high for some canvis kicks

(thats why they created spellcheck) but let’s not forget the reason we’re all here-the sneakers… i just want to say that as a sneakerhead, i respect the Gourmet line. people come out with something new every day. note that i said new, not necissarily original. honestly, they cost too damn much for a canvas shoe an for that reason alone, you won’t see ‘em on my feet. but you have to admit that if you saw MJ rockin’ a pair of these, we wouldn’t be having these conversations… and i feel like people aren’t exactly giving credit where credit is due. MJ didn’t actually design his sneakers. it wasn’t until the creation of the Jordan III when Tinker Hatfield stepped in and actually asked for Jordan’s input. after that, Hatfield designed all of the Jordans up to the XV with the help of Michael. i only bring that up because of people’s constant adoration of Michael Jordan. i love his sneakers, but let’s be real; the man isn’t payin my bills. in fact; with all of the Jordans purchased by sneakerheads like me, we’ve probably paid his bills ten times over. lol. (not to mention that we helped him pay Juanita over $150 mil. sucks for him….) overall, i vote yes on the sneakers (Gourmets) wouldn’t pay that price though.
