Heaven’s Gate Nike Dunk High SB Sample
Remember the Heaven’s Gate SB Dunk Hi that was suppose drop this Fall? They were set to drop in August to be exact, but they were replaced by the unFutura SB Dunk Hi. The news first hit the web about the Heaven’s Gate Dunk in December 2007 after we posted our exclusive interview with Todd Jordan. Mr. Jordan told us about the HG Dunks in the interview, but he said too much. At the time we had no idea Todd was talking about the religious cult “Heaven’s Gate” that was led by Marshall Applewhite and Bonnie Nettles. The cult resulted in 38 dead bodies that was found in a mansion in San Diego, CA on March 26, 1997.
The suicide was accomplished by ingestion of phenobarbital mixed with vodka, along with plastic bags secured around their heads to induce asphyxiation. They were found lying neatly in their own bunk beds, with their faces and torsos covered by a square, purple cloth. Each member carried a five dollar bill and three quarters in their pockets. All 39 were dressed in identical black shirts and sweat pants, brand new black-and-white Nike “Cortez” athletic shoes, and armband patches reading “Heaven’s Gate Away Team.” The suicides were conducted in shifts, and the remaining members of the group cleaned up after each prior group’s death. words by Wiki
A few days after we posted the interview Nike SB saw the buzz going around the web and Todd’s detailed Heaven’s Gate inspiration story. TSG was contacted immediately by Nike SB asking us to pull the interview. At this point Todd was in hot water with Nike SB and the real question they wanted to know is why would he admit the colorway was inspired by Heaven’s Gate on camera? While speaking with Nike SB we were told the Dunks would be scrapped from their Holiday ‘08 line up. We finally have a detailed look at the Heaven’s Gate Dunk thanks to GumSoles, but the sad part is they will never release. The shoe itself is hot. But I can’t get with the concept behind it. Something unappealing about mass suicide, ya know?
I can see why Nike SB would wanna scrap these b/c I guess they dont wanna seem like they are trying to make a profit off of such a serious event. However these are one of the cleanest SB’s I’ve seen in a min. IMO and Nike SB needs to just try and think of a better name for these and release them.

These actually look like those Storm Trooper joints that are set to drop, minus the purple of course…This joints are hot but its completely understand to scrap them….Please the last thing Nike needs is to get sued by the families for Profitting from people death…Just the mention of the connection and they have to be scrapped…The difference between this and St. Valentines P-Rod’s is non of those people nor there families (or the statue of limitations) are around or open to lawsuits..
even if nike did get sued for these being released there is zero evidence that would hold up in court… its not like they say heavens gate on the heel! if todd never said anything then they would have been released and the name of the shoe would have stuck wit it after retail so whats the difference?

these are ok at best. Nothing worth getting upset over. I actually like the idea of the inspiration behind this design. I’d like to see a pair of dunks inspired by other dark events like the inquisition or the black plague. Does anyone agree or have I completley lost it?
