His Airness declares his heirness – Kobe Bryant
Michael Jordan has changed the game how history once told it and how we all know it. Living in the post MJ era has quickly inserted the “Next Michael Jordan” mouthpiece into many thinking that one to forgo college or mange to clinch a couple buzzer beaters for the W on occasion deserves to be compared to what Jordan has established.
Many players from LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Dwayne Wade, even Allen Iverson was once considered for the position but none has bared the resemblance of MJ’s servitude better than the Laker’s own, Kobe Bryant. His consistent scoring performance, strict worth ethic, and marketability coupled with his 5-ring (and many other accolades) feat has him poised to stand not behind MJ, in his shadows, but soon beside him, at his shoulders. Roland Lanzby, a writer currently working on a Jordan book, had this to say via Twitter.
Kobe’s ultimate competition is MJ. That’s why MJ watches him. MJ made people think what he was doing wasn’t human. Ditto the Kobester. I never said Kobe was better than MJ. MJ just told me Kobe’s the only one to have done the work, to deserve comparison.
Only time will tell is Kobe will the man to trump what MJ has done on the court as the man shows no signs of slowing down but has expressed that while retirement may not be in arms length, it’s definitely in sight. Do you think that Kobe will clinch his 6th title? What about a 7th? Feel free to discuss in the comments section below.

There will Never be another MJ and Never another KB, but as far is putting in work and championships, Kobe is beating around the corner.
…stop front’n M.J.
Lebron Sucks! ha
Lebron is all HYPE with his King BS. Hes the king of losers (2nd place) in NBA. Listen to the wording homies, don’t get it twisted.
kobe is the one we already know he will pass jordan.
but there will never be another jordan. the things he has done, the records he has shattered, hell the records he has set. these things was all something our time wasn’t ready for. the shit was just ground breaking. much respect to mr. 23 aka chicago wind but now its time for the black mamba.
Basketball wise… Yeah i consider kobe a match for jordan in his prime… BUT… There will never be another person that can compared to MJs legacy… MJ broke the mold outside of bball…. Did so many things that have opened the door for players now…. U cant compare sh!t like that…
That’s right!!!^^^
Never ending discussion about this. Kb and Mj are both extreme competitors ….So whatever… I’m just enjoying watching KB now before he leaves the game and we all start asking for the next KB. KB can win 8 championships…doesn’t matter, their will never be another MJ
Kobe is an outstanding player. he has set the mold for today’s athlete. He is this generations example what hardwork and the will to win can acheive. This has come from time studying great players one of them being MJ. With that being said Bean Bryant has been the 2nd best player on 3 of the 5 champoinship teams. Not the case with Jeffery Jordan. Even after he retires players will be compared to Mike before they are compared to Kobe, because Kobe has molded his game after Mike.
I’m not comparing them to each other. I’m a huge Michael Jordan fan and I’m a Kobe Bryant fan and that’s that.
Every era has players that define it and set the benchmark for others to follow.
We’re talking The Precedent vs. The Predecessor.
Jordan set the precedent. Kobe bears the torch.
Simple as that.
Kobe haters are like little kids who don’t wanna put on a jacket when their parents tell them it’s cold outside. Then, they get outside, freezing, teeth chattering and still don’t wanna admit Mom and dad were right…it’s f’in freezing.
So, regardless of what you’re talking about…Kobe is the illest in his era (16 seasons and counting). You gotta be hard headed not to recognize that.
nicely put REE
If anyone hates on Kobe or says he’s not the man, you simply dont know basketball at all. Period! There will never be another Jordan imo, but Kobe is definitely the closest thing we will see to him.
Lebron is king at choking in the 4th quater
And be reminded Mjs off and on again retirements took away from stats. Also kobe came in straight from HS.(Side note kobe was the 2nd best on some of those teams but without that duo would they still have 1? And who’s to say mj would have still had all that success getting the rings at least without fellow Hall of fame scottie playing along side? Ponder that)
When its all said and done kobe will stand alone, not better than but alone. I said b4 the begining, if their was to be a season kobe was gonna be a man on a mission. Still got them in the finals losing to the HEAT this year. He won’t ever see that 6th ring unless they get D12 or some1 of that caliber. Playoff bball Is gonna be to tough the way other teams are built for this laker team built now to win it all.
Think about it yall…will there never be another MJ?
better yet will there ever be another Kobe?
Mj wrote the blueprint to become a great player and Kobe is only player to read it and study it!
Kobe is the closest we will ever get to MJ, and MJ recognizes the work Kobe puts in everyday on the court.
im happy MJ recognizes Kobe’s work.
What does this have to do with sneakers?? This should be on espn!!!
^smh your kidding right ?!
Anyway IMO Kobe is the best player in the league after Jordan left. After Kobe leaves IMO Kevin durant hands down. Screw Lebum. I have no respect for his bum ass. Scored 20 points the most in a finals game, left his team, can’t do shit in a fourth quarter etc etc. as a person Kobe is a dick as a player in the nba you have to respect him hands down no if ands or buts.
kobe is no where near mj, rings dont make the man….. kobe is trash and i feel sorry for his mother
Maybe another ring, but be as successful as Jordan xD
Common is that a serious question?
R E E KILLIN ME WITH THE ANALOGY.. THE TRUTH IS MJ HAD MORE HATERS..
.
I THINK THE REASON WHY MJ IS EVEN ACKNOWLEDGING KOBE AT THIS TIME IN HIS CAREER IS BECAUSE OF:
1. HIS WORK ETHIC.. NOT ONLY ON THE COURT BUT OFF IT. JORDAN WAS THE SAME COMPETITOR ON AND OFF THE COURT AND HE SEE THAT IN KOBE
2. HIS COMMITMENT TO WINNING.. EVEN THOUGH I QUESTION HIM QUITTING THE YEAR THEY LOST TO BOSTON.. ANYWAYS, YOU CAN’T QUESTION THAT THE DUDE IS ALL ABOUT WINNING.
3. KOBE EARNED HIS STRIPES THE RIGHT WAY.. (IN JORDAN’S EYES) A DUDE WITH EXTREME TALENT WHO HAS WORKED HARD AND MOLDED AND SHAPED HIS GAME TO BECOME A CHAMPION. HE DID IT WHEN HE WAS #2 AND THEN PROVED HIS LEADERSHIP QUALITIES AND HIS ABILITY TO MAKE HIS TEAMMATES BETTER WHEN HE WAS #1. THERE ARE TONS OF PLAYERS WHO WERE HYPED AND MARKETED AS GREAT EVEN BEFORE THEY DRIBBLED A BASKETBALL ON THE NBA HARDWOOD. LEBRON, MELO, PAUL AND THE LIST GOES ON. THEY ARE ALL VERY GOOD PLAYERS BUT THEY ARE NOT GREAT YET. THEY HAVE A LOT OF WORK TO PUT IN ON THE HARDWOOD FIRST.
.
I WILL SAY THIS.. ONE OF THE MAIN THINGS THAT REALLY SEPARATES JORDAN FROM KOBE IS THE FACT THAT HE NEVER LOSS A FINALS… I DON’T KNOW ANY OTHER GREAT THAT HAS DONE THAT. HE HAS PREVENTED HALL OF FAMERS AND A HOST OF ALL TIME GREATS SUCH AS EWING, MALONE, STOCKTON, BARKLEY AND REGGIE MILLER FROM GETTING RINGS. THEY ALL HAD TO GO THROUGH JORDAN… I THINK IVERSON WAS THE ONLY SUPERSTAR TO PLAY AGAINST A KOBE TEAM AND RETIRE WITH OUT A RING.
.
I LAUGH AT THIS LEBRON HATE AS I DO WITH THE KOBE HATE. KOBE IS CLEARLY THE BETTER PLAYER BY A LONG SHOT. WHEN LEBRON GETS HIS MENTAL GAME ON PAR WITH HIS PHYSICAL ABILITY WE WILL SEE A DIFFERENT PLAYER. HIS TIME WILL COME. CARMELO IS SO GLAD THAT ALL THE EYES AND PRESSURE IS ON LEBRON BECAUSE HE IS NO BETTER THAN LEBRON. HAHAHAHAHAHA. FOR SOMEONE WHO IS TRASH AND GARBAGE ..HE SINGLE HANDEDLY CARRIED THE CAVS TO A FINALS AND WENT TO ANOTHER WHERE HE WAS MORE THAN INSTRUMENTAL IN GETTING THE HEAT TO FINALS AND THEN HE DISAPPEARED WHEN IT COUNTED .. WHAT HAS MELO DONE??? (……..crickets…….) KEEP HIDIN’ MELO.
.
OK … MY RANT IS OVER.
Kobe is Kobe & MJ is MJ…
All Kobe wanted to be is the best Kobe he could be just like MJ! 2 all-time greats and you can’t knock either of them.
I hate when people talk about the fact that MJ never lost a Finals. That’s a “cool” feat but as it stands Kobe spent almost half his career always being in the Finals. That means he’s always at the dance. Not always leaving with the Cinderella but 5 out of 7 times aint so bad.
My biggest issue with people saying MJ transforming the game is that it simply isn’t true. Dr.J was MJ before MJ. He did everything MJ did but without an ESPN at the time. People always confuse basketball with everyday life when speaking of MJ.
MJ had the luck of a breakthrough company like Nike helping his brand and shaping the mind of people on a global scale. The molds had nothing to do with what he actually did on a court though. And I am not a hater these are all facts.
Basketball wise there really isn’t much separating Kobe & MJ. They both are top-3 at their position. Both played with dominant players who are also top-3 at their position (Shaq & Pip). Both won a bunch of rings and awards and did amazing things scoring wise.
For my money I would still argue that Magic is the greatest of all-time but that’s not what this is about right now. MJ was very graceful to say what he said but all Kobe haters are gonna be the same either way! Have a great day everyone
PS
This is an old article but it still serves it purpose. If anyone needs help spotting a Kobe Hater, they are everywhere after all, here is the manual http://www.playersvoice.com/NBA/love-to-hate.html
lol
MJ is the G.O.A.T… Kobe is next in line. Stop frontin Lebron lovers. Lebron just does not have the closer instinct to take over a game. TAKE THE WINNING SHOT. I just don’t see it. BUT!! Lebron has plenty of time. He has the potential tho. I think not going to college and not having a coach like Phil Jackson to walk you through the process helps. Keep in mind Kobe played in a different era than Lebron. Kobe is the last of that era. IMO
MJ may have been a great basketball player but don’t get caught up on him as the be all end all judge of basketball talent, remember this is the same man who picked Kwame brown and Adam Morrison thinking they’d be game changers.
nuff said.
mj is kb mentor kobe came to the nba at the right time.thats why you see all these people in the nba say that they grew up watching kobe now what i can say is mj never had his team mates wear his shoes during games let alone someone from another team.now kb one the other hand speaks for it self.ive seen college teams nba cba over seas……….. tell king james do dat!!!!!!! LAKES ALL DAY!!!!!!!!!!
