Marcus Jordan Wears Jordans And UCF Loses Adidas Contract

Marcus Jordan UCF

News hit the media last month about Marcus Jordan refusing to wear adidas footwear while playing basketball for University of Central Florida. Marcus said he didn’t have a problem wearing adidas apparel since they sponsor UCF, but he refused to wear adidas shoes. Marcus is a man of his word, and he proved his statement in last nights exhibition game against Saint Leo. He wore a pair of Jordans in the game last night, and UCF won 84-65. Is it the shoes? Apparently, it was the shoes that made adidas decide to end their contract with UCF.

According to the Associated Press:

“The University of Central Florida has chosen not to deliver on their contractual commitment to adidas,” adidas spokeswoman Andrea Corso wrote in an e-mail to The Associated Press. “As a result we have chosen not to continue our relationship with them moving forward.”

Marcus stays loyal to his father’s brand, and will not wear anything but Jordans on the hardwood. Jordan also said that he will only wear Air Jordans because they hold special meaning to his family. Once UCF receives an official notice they will then be able to further respond.

Do you agree with Marcus Jordan’s decision? Let us know in the comments section, and also hit the jump to see which Air Jordans he wore in the game.

Good for Marcus, bad for the university. Its selfish if you think about it. The university better have a Jordan contract on deck now….if not than that messed up.

  5. Comment by J FANATIC November 5th, 2009 at 10:46 am

its kinda funny cuz i feel the same way i only wear jordans ! ha

  6. Comment by Jeremy C. November 5th, 2009 at 10:47 am

Brand Jordan need’s to step up in this matter since it was Michaels son who put UCF in a hard spot with losing a contract that brings in money for the college and shoes for the players. This is a horrible move on Marcus’s part…where Adidas and be a team player. The team is more important then yourself. There’s no I in team.

  7. Its not selfish, they told him he could, which was a big decision why he chose UCF. When the ime came they switched up on him. So what if Adidas tries to use that as a marketing tool like “Even a Jordan would wear Adidas”. LOL Thats what UCF gets for saying he could wear his daddy’s shoes.

  8. Some people might think its selfish on his part for not taking one for the team but at the same time he is a man of his word by staying true to the kicks he said he saids he gonna wear, Tough decision!!!

  9. Comment by weezy23 November 5th, 2009 at 10:58 am

lol people are saying hes a spoiled brat but did you all know UCF told him when they gave him his scholorship that he could wear his Js because what it means to there family because he made that clear in the beggining that he wanted to wear his pops shoes! if ur pops was Jordan u would rock them too and dont say u wouldnt!

  10. Comment by Danzuda November 5th, 2009 at 11:07 am

Arrogant just like his father. The funny thing is he’s not even that good to be influencing the team in such a negative way. Wasn’t he with illinois last year?

  11. ALL UCF has to do is sign a small contract with Jordan. Not that big of a deal…

  12. Comment by Mighty Whitey November 5th, 2009 at 11:15 am

if they’re not immediately given a Jordan contract then this is way F’d up.

  13. Nah that was his big bro Jeff that walked on for Illinois.

  14. Comment by Hye Style Kid November 5th, 2009 at 11:39 am

I dont know how it went down if he was told to wear adidas when he sign then he should wear em but if they told him from the start then what did everyone expect in a sense it does portray the image that he is bigger than the team cuz of his last name but aye he still doin him so whatever back to the shoes he needs to be playing in fire colorways if hegonna break the contract not those

  15. Comment by Hye Style Kid November 5th, 2009 at 11:42 am

and wh happened to his older brother

  16. See this is a messed up situation on UCF and ADIDAS part… ADIDAS should not have ended their contract with UCF based on one persons decision and UCF should have never told mJ that he could rock some jays and then switch up on him…. I feel he’s not in the wrong what so ever because that was part of their original aggrement (google this if you didn’t know) Soooooo right on Marcus continue to take your stand… lets just hope your dad hooks the squad up with a JB contract other wise you gonna have some heated teammates with no kicks!!!! Might have to buy them a few pairs outta pocket??

  17. His older Brother stopped playing ball to finish school.

  18. Comment by Blue cheese November 5th, 2009 at 11:50 am

If they told him that he could wear his Jordan’s…UCF needs to eat that and hush up. Now his father should step up and just give them a small contract and it’s all good after that!

  19. Comment by am95connoisseur aka 4daloveofdasneekz November 5th, 2009 at 11:53 am

there’s no “I” in TEAM but there’s an “I” in WIN….LOL…. JB, step up and give the school a lil’ ol’ contract..LOL

  20. Comment by MelloYelloMD November 5th, 2009 at 11:55 am

That’s that bull. I was talking about this with some of my folks when the news first broke. The university should have taken the stance that if you wanna be on THIS team then you abide by the TEAM rules, but they prolly thought it was more important to have him on the team. With that said, JB needs to pick up the slack and pick up where adidas left off. UCF is not a big time school tho, but neither was A&T.

  21. Comment by miitch.mastta November 5th, 2009 at 11:55 am

its very immature on his part because in all reality its not that serious just wear the addidas .. if you a true bball player you can play in any shoes and addidas makes like one of the most light wieght shoes for basketball players .. but that better mean that Jordan is going to sponsor UCF now

  22. Comment by Hye Style Kid November 5th, 2009 at 11:55 am

curiosity did his brother do the samething i havent really payed attention to them welll basketball in general, but props to Marcus for standing in what he believed.

  23. Comment by J.Chang November 5th, 2009 at 12:00 pm

I used to live down the street from UCF, and went to the HS named for the street it was on. Believe me when I say even if Jordan Brand doesn’t hook them up with a contract, they got money to buy shoes outta pocket. UCF may not have the most talented players in the country but they not short on paper…. If they told him he could wear it, then I think he should continue to and let’s be real…. If your dad was the GREATEST (hate him or love him, it’s the truth) bball player in the world EVER…. wouldn’t you wear his shoe that also bears your last name…. Adidas should be glad a school even wanted to be sponsored by them, get over it and provide the rest of those rich kids shoes, LoL….

  24. y not switch to da best i thank they should have a contract with jordan brand i mean who wears adidas come on now

  25. Comment by Scotty Rock November 5th, 2009 at 12:09 pm

    ^^^^^^^^^^

Anybody who said that he’s selfish.

Do you have problems being loyal to your parents?

Because that’s all that is. Loyalty. It’s not like it’s just loyalty to “A” brand. Just “any” brand. He’s being loyal to the dude he swam out of. I respect that.

  26. I WOULD WEAR JORDANS TO!

  27. Comment by moreno172 November 5th, 2009 at 12:18 pm

we just witness somthing very smart.
wat betta way to take ova a school oncourt apparel wise then to place the son of a big shoe company.see ucf is not a small school the way people think, its actually a big school without nike and jordan.let look back at the schools marcus was gonna go to all nike and jordan.
so dont hate the playa hate the game.remember after basket ball he have to take ova jordan brand.

  28. Comment by spoonhead aka Stink Finger November 5th, 2009 at 12:19 pm

great bit of marketing for both companies… the Uni loses out though, i bet you that JB will step in and takes over… the kid is a sploit twat thoough!

  29. Comment by spoonhead aka Stink Finger November 5th, 2009 at 12:21 pm

    @Scotty Rock

Everyone one would be loyal to thier folks, but this is over a pair of shoes, it’s not like JB is a struggling Brand and needs all the exposure it can get!!!
We all know he didn’t do it to be loyal, it was to stand out and remind everyone he’s Jordan’s son….

  30. Comment by Wadalex November 5th, 2009 at 12:25 pm

the kid has every reason to wear the nike jordan brand lets not forget that they paid for everything throughout this kids life. PLUS it was a part of the agreement when the scholarship was given so Marcus has the right to

  31. Perspective people, perspective. First of all, If UCF had any intentions of honoring their obligations to adidas then they wouldn’t have played Marcus. Secondly I definitely don’t find any fault with Marcus for being loyal to the family name and brand that got him there to begin with. Thirdly had he worn adidas YOU DOGGONE RIGHT adidas would’ve ran with it! IT’S BUSINESS PEOPLE, JUST BUSINESS!

  32. i have no doubt that marcus would wear jordan..
michael would kill him if he don’t.

  33. Comment by Shawti P November 5th, 2009 at 12:48 pm

Its some hataz on this page…keep up people. ESPN had been running this story over the summer. UCF said it was cool because a football player once wore a brand other than adidas. Besides they were in the last year of the contract, so at the very least they will probably sign with nike

  34. Comment by 23edge KNOWS November 5th, 2009 at 12:52 pm

Marcus must think he’s gonna make it to the NBA and be a star almost like his dad… ‘cept every NBA player will want to make him his bitch. FUCK’sake SON! Practice what you speech, i.e. staying humble. That requires you not to come into a new place acting like a fucking diva, demanding special treatment. Yes I understand that the brand must mean alot to your family, but you earn it first, otherwise you will never prove yourself.

  35. Soo if it means so much to the family and all that why isn’t Jordan sponsoring UCF?? The school lost a contract with Adidas over 1 player smh

  36. Comment by Al Boogie November 5th, 2009 at 1:07 pm

I don’t think they were under ANY contract when signing him. They knew he would be wearing J’s,(duh!). Why would anyone wear Adidas anyway? Seems like injuries occur in them and Reebok way more often. ex. McGrady, Gilbert A.& Yao

  37. can do what he wants he shouldn’t be forced to wear a certain sneaker when soccer club is sponsored no one tells them to wear the same shoes

  38. Comment by CenValCali November 5th, 2009 at 1:33 pm

Poppa Jordan would’ve been more lenient wit Marcus if his son decided to put the P.E. J’s in the box & rolled wit 3 stripes cuz from the get-go, MJ Senior wanted to sign wit “All Day I Dream About *cough*….Shoes”

  39. Comment by Hye Style Kid November 5th, 2009 at 1:42 pm

Lets not forget the bamma went to a school where it was sponsered by adidas so both knew what they were getting into

  40. Comment by RUSSBHEEZ November 5th, 2009 at 1:44 pm

congrats to Marcus Jordan. U make those stands when u own a brand, and one day soon he will be a major player within the JB organization, the name jordan will be worth far more to his future than UCF.

  41. Comment by ThaStarrah November 5th, 2009 at 1:44 pm

I blame his daddy. He’s strict about his kids wearing adidas in his house. I’m pretty sure he told Marcus not to step foot in them shoes, so now he should pick up the sponsorship since one pair of J’s, that’s not even that hot, caused all of this ruckus.

  42. Yup, I agree with all ya’ll who feel that there BETTER be a Jumpman on UCF for a long long time! I don’t agree that it’s selfish of Marcus… the boy has always always been loyal to his fathers shoe legacy! Good for you Marcus… now tell your Pops to ship about 20 more pairs of Rising Sun XII’s to your teammates ASAP!

  43. @ Scotty Rock….. It dnt matter if he came out his fathers sack!!! it has NOTHING to do with loyalty because we ALLLL know he loves his fathers shoes. I think he’s shown all of us all the damn J’s he has….. That move was SELFISH and Disrespectful. He’s MJ’s son or wutever but that DOES NOT put him over ANYBODY!!! Now those other players lost there chance at being sponsored by addiads. they dnt have a closet full of free J’s to go home too like sopiled Marcus so his decision was flat out WRONG!

  44. Comment by NEW SOUTH November 5th, 2009 at 2:22 pm

WHEN THEY RECRUITED HIM THEY ALREADY KNEW HE WAS JORDAN’S SON. C’MON MAN. NOW MAYBE BRAND JORDAN WILL BE THE OUTFITTER FOR UCF

  45. At everyone who is siding with adidas. SHUT UP. If the school ALLOWED him to wear the kicks. Then SHUT UP. We all know he is gonna wear J’s till he 6 ft. under. It’s in his blood. It ain’t selfish. Yeah he has thousands of J’s and can wear them anytime. But lemme ask Basketball players not skinny jean wearin fags who call themselves sneaker heads. Whats more comfortable. A bullshitty pear of adidas or a nice comfortable pair of Air Jordan retros that contain new sneaker technology. I think I’d go wit the Air Jordan Retro.

  46. Comment by Converse King November 5th, 2009 at 2:33 pm

Oh goody. I was hoping this would make it on here. The guy spoils the party for his whole team, just because he has a bad case of “do you know who my father is?” Well I’ve got news for you Marcus. Your daddy wanted to work for Adidas before he got his own shoe brand. Yeah, a little hard to hear the facts, isn’t it? Well I’ve got another shocker for ya. He wore Converse too!

I’m sure they’ll work out some deal with his father’s company to sponsor his team. But he’s not really being a team player, by acting so damn conceited. Personally, I think you have to be a real bitch to play the “do you know who my daddy is?” card. Your dad’s the one with the talent, and popularity, Marcus. Not you.

  47. Comment by MisterMcfly23 November 5th, 2009 at 2:41 pm

it really don’t matter because JB or Nike is gonna sign the college next year anyway. thats why they didnt put a much of a fight, they already knew if Adidas dropped them, Nike/JB would be right there…

  48. Converse King that was harsh bro! ahaha but that’s real talk.
It’s funny how MJ wanted to wear Adidas, & his son doesn’t want to.

  49. Comment by AyVee23 November 5th, 2009 at 3:03 pm

You guys don’t understand… when he was recruited by them he made it well known that he was going to wear jordans and before he even signed they said it would not be a problem. Its the school and coaching staff’s fault. Period…

I can’t stand how everybody wants to hate on MJ’s sons. They didn’t ask to be his sons, but they are, so what do want them to do? Not take advantage of what they have? I guarantee if any of you were related to MJ you would be trying to get some PE’s….

  50. JB better step up and sponsor this team now. the jordan’s lost there sponsorship now some one has to pick the slack.

  51. Comment by am95connoisseur aka 4daloveofdasneekz November 5th, 2009 at 3:14 pm

Pleasssseeeee. I don’t feel sorry for ADIDAS… I don’t feel sorry for MARCUS and I certainly don’t feel sorry for UCF….
ADIDAS is a whack brand anyway….. Their product is inferior and whoever’s in charge of marketing and recruiting those college accounts should be fired. They couldn’t even convince a ‘NOBODY’ to wear their brand…… You see CONVERSE KING… MJ wanted to wear ADIDAS and his MOM/POPS convinced him just to give NIKE a listen and it was WRAP from there. STEP YA GAME UP ADIDAS!!!!!!!!
UCF doesn’t lose out…. ADIDAS does… UCF will find a sponsor….. MARCUS doesn’t lose out either…. HE STILL WILL WEAR JORDANS… HE STILL HAS A FULL RIDE TO GO TO UCF….. & MORE THAN LIKELY JB WILL TAKE THE SPONSORSHIP OVER… EVEN IF THEY DON’T… HE STILL WINS…..

  52. This is all Adidas fault, there just jealous that one guys shoes are more popular than their entire company. Plus what’s the big deal one kid doesn’t want to wear their shoes so they throw a fit and won’t extend contract. LAME

  53. Comment by Converse King November 5th, 2009 at 3:23 pm

  54. Comment by auburnfan November 5th, 2009 at 3:28 pm

For those out there saying he isn’t being selfish and he’s just standing up for what he believes, your also saying that if next year, john doe joins the team and want to wear Chuck Taylors because that’s what his dad played in while in High School, the University should respect that. That’s crap. The ONLY reason he is allowed to do this is because his last name is Jordan. The kid is a no talent spoiled brat. There is a reason UNC, Duke, and Kentucky refused to give him a scholarship, he’s only out for JORDAN. This kid needs to sit till he decides it’s what is best for the team. Not daddy’s little brat.

  55. THE MAN HAD 1 POINT LOL AND HES MAKING THOSE CALLS?

  56. i hate dat teams gotta wear the same sneaks in da 1St place so i don fault him 4 not wantin 2 but can da rest of da team run 2 daddy for a jordan weneva theres a release?

After reading these posts, I cant understand why some of you readers are hatin’. Put yourself in his shoes, that’s family loyalty. You don’t see the ford family drivin chryslers, do you??? As for UCF, they wont be without a shoe contract, Nike or JB should pick them up, that would be the right thing to do since they are somewhat the cause of them losing the contract with Adidas. You never know, it was probably planned that way. I see nobody thought about that one, huh???

  63. Comment by K.billy November 5th, 2009 at 5:15 pm

^what he reallly needs to do tho is get rid of those wack ass john salley glasses

  64. adidas what are you doin? 1st you guys wouldnt give daddy jordan a contract now u want lil jordan to wear adidas??

  65. Very good marketing on JB. Remember NBA tried to banned Air Jordan I?

  66. Do you guys really really really think a tear would come to MJ’s eyes if he saw MarJ wearing adidas? Get real…MarJ has no talent.

If he was any good, UNC, Kentucky, Duke would have tried to sign him.

    There’s a reason why he’s at UCF.

If MarJ was given a scholarship from UCF to play there, then MarJ should be wearing the shoes that is provided, contractually.

If MarJ was a walk on then it shows how much of a “dynamic” player he really is.

MarJ has a lot to say for someone who has NOT done anything.

If he decides to wear the best comfortable shoes or some ragady adidas on the court. And if it was a dynasty my pops build me and my siblings are suppose to carry the torch no matter what we doing.

I think Adidas took it too far. One person does not reflect an entire University. It’s not fair to the players or the University. Adidas is just still bitter that MJ went to Nike and not them. Let Marcus wear Jordan’s and forget about it. This is MJ’s kid for crying out loud.

  75. What doesn’t make sense to me is that michael knows that marcus wants to play college ball , whatever team he wanted to be on he should of already been the sponser. Some father, big m.j.

  83. I love MJ, but he’s a cocky, selfish guy, and I wouldn’t doubt, in his heart of hearts, if he actually prefers Marcus NOT wear any of his kicks…..HE made history in those shoes, and I bet his greedy ass wants to cry watching that fool wear his kicks, with that name on that jersey, and dropping a whopping ONE point in a game lol….

That was a solid ONE point though!

  85. Comment by Juiceman November 6th, 2009 at 8:40 am

I kinda understand what Marcus is saying. I mean we people can say it was dumb but Im sure they dad has had or made any shoes on the level that his dad has. So with that said he is probably pretty proud of what his dad has accomplished and probably grew up dreaming about wearing his dads shoes when he was younger and not being able to do it cause you gotta wear Adidas is kinda ridiculous. No offense to Adidas they cool but we talking bout Michael Jordan and Im sure something will be worked out for UCF for that loyalty come on Im sure something has been brewing since he decided to go to UCF

  86. Comment by J.Chang November 6th, 2009 at 9:35 am

Just a thought…. Maybe he went to UCF to actually get an education and since he can play a little ball, why not do that too…. Maybe he’s not trying to be his dad and nothing against UNC, Duke and Kentucky but UCF is actually a good academic school…. Again not saying that the other schools aren’t…. Just another thought, everyone who has ever been successfully in life, like really successful are assholes…. They had to step on the little guy at some point, they had to have the idea and mentality that they are better than everyone else…. For example, Jay-Z, Dame Dash, Kanye, Mike Tyson…. I mean some people on my short list just ain’t right in the head anyway but, LoL…. My point is to be GREAT, there will be a point where you’re going to be a dick…. Michael Jordan has just been in the limelight for so long that is arrogance and assholeness is well documented….. And like I said in my previous post when you are the baddest dude on the planet, and at the top of the bball world…..I mean come on….. To extent you can be asshole, especially when you have earned it…. Just a thought….

  87. ^^^^ I agree. In order to get to the next level you sometimes have to have a different mentality. You see it in every area of life. Whether it’s getting out of the ghetto or getting the top management spot on the job.

When you decide to go after something that’s greater there will always be those (the old homies in the hood; the co-workers you kicked it with) who will call you a butthole.

Simply because you aren’t where you used to be. And you know how the saying goes “Misery Loves Company”. But it’s never a problem as long as everybody is miserable together.

  88. all y’all are stupid! if you had some shoes with your name on it, you’d wear them too. if you wouldn’t then your plain stupid…I wouldn’t compromise anything for my fam. besides, this kids just trying to get his degree and have some fun playin ball. most of us with that type of money wouldn’t even be thinkin of school, like Ray-J…hahahaha, loser….

Well then, sounds like Nike just won a sponsorship with UCF.

I have to say, I can’t exactly blame him. But at the same time there is an air of entitlement in this situation that stinks.

man, i read a couple of the first few posts and u all are some haters! if u play basketball u know what u like to wear on ur feet in a game. and for me i kno its not a pair of adidas lol. so while all u think hes just disrespecting adidas and his team and letting down the school by only wearing his dads shoes, i think u should look past urself wanting to bash him, and think of a real reason why he would stick to jordan. because their better to play in! hope u all stop bein so negative

  95. I respect Marcus for sticking to his morals and feelings. It’s a shame how he is being used like a ‘pawn’ by all parties involved for publicity and marketing. But I think it will all turn out good for UCF in the end, and that’s what matters!! The shoes you choose to play in is a very personal choice, and no team should have to be forced to play in a specific sponsor’s pair. It don’t matter however many pairs Adidas brings out they will never be as good as the legendary Tinker Hatfield/nike creations

  96. F addidas, dumb move its exactly what JB wanted them to do. They should have made provisions for him to wear his JAYs being that they have very few contracts with major college programs. ( Nebraska, Notre Dame)

  97. All those that are saying Marcus was being selfish you gotta put yourself in his position. It’s more than just putting on a pair of sneakers. He IS jordan. That’s like one of the hilton’s staying at a marriott. He would never hear the end of it. I wouldn’t be suprised is Addidas ran a whole ad campaign about it, had he wore the shoes.
