You Suck If You Hate On the Doernbecher Air Jordan 4
I originally wrote an editorial on the Doernbecher Air Jordan 4 after seeing/hearing all the hate, but I decided not to publish it because, well, the truth hurts (sometimes). But I think this title pretty much sums up how I feel. I wanted the title to grab your attention, not make you feel like a piece of crap. Trust me, I totally understand that the DB designs are not what you would expect, but isn’t that the point? The Doernbecher Freestyle Collection allows the children to express themselves creatively while using sneakers as a canvas. It’s that simple. And it’s no need to reiterate where proceeds go.
Anyhow, Isaiah Scott is the mastermind behind the DB Air Jordan 4, and with just a few days away from the launch of his shoe, we finally get to hear the story behind the design.
Jumpman23 said:
Isaiah is a lot like most 11-year-old boys. He loves basketball, videogames, cooking and watching TV. However, he’s also spent extended time as a patient at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. We teamed up with Doernbecher to let Isaiah bring his own creative vision for a Jordan shoe to life.
While at Doernbecher, Isaiah became known for is stoic approach to treatment – never complaining. His mom would call him “Superman” because he was “strong as steel”. Young Isaiah embraced his newfound strongman reputation in the design of the Air Jordan 4 DB.
Unlike any Jordan to come before it, the first thing that draws your attention is the Superman ‘S’ shield woven label on the tongue. Warner Brothers was touched by Isaiah’s story, and gave us permission to use the logo on his behalf.
Neon green laces and pops throughout represent Isaiah’s favorite color, and are reminiscent of Superman’s Kryptonite. Blue mesh and stitching on the upper, and red in the heel cushioning system and sockliner pay tribute to Superman’s suit.
If you look closer at the upper, you’ll see subtle arrows that can be interpreted as the ever-changing directions that life takes us in, including the ups and the downs. You’ll also notice an image of Isaiah himself peeking up on the outer heel.
The three colors from the Superman logo appear on the sole. Underneath the transluscent portions, you’ll notice comic-book-style word bubbles including the word “SEVEN” which is Isaiah’s favorite number.
Isaiah’s Air Jordan 4 DB hits stores this Saturday for those of you working on a superhuman kick-game.
Wait, there’s more. Watch the video below to hear from Isaiah and his mother. And by the way, I’m not saying you have to buy his Jordans or like them, but please stop bashing a shoe that was designed by a CHILD. If you don’t like any of the Doernbecher shoes that’s cool. The Doernbecher Foundation will still accept donations… that is if you want to donate some of your funds to Doernbecher.

I wish they available in the ATL. I need these in my life.
The SB Dunk Entourages, Freddy’s, etc are scrapped because of legal issues. The fact that the Superman logo was allowed to be used is really a nice touch. Like I said before, I NEED these. Size 9 please.
Yeah I want them too, it’s going to be hard trying to find a sz 12.
Are these releasing on Nike.com like the previous DBs?
I needed that… because even knowing a kid designed them, I still wasn’t feeling the colorway… but the story behind the creation gives the entire shoe more validity. Not a “must-cop”, but I can respect it! Stay SUPER Isaiah.
that video just makes me want them more now.
the whole db collection release the 5th correct? so tomorrow @ midnihgt?
That was a EXCELLENT way to put it G-roc. Thanks for stepping up and sayin it like that. I will be the first to tell u that I wont rock this sneaker but u can be sure that I will be up on saturday tryin to cop a pair cause its for a really good cause! I spend literally thousands on sneakers every year. Money that goes straight to billion dollar company Nike. Now we all have a chance to give our hard earned money to support something real important and that will do alot of good for other children.
And by the way, little dude seems real cool. And his moms is real cool too. That video defin made me want to support this even more!
All of a sudden everyone wants these cuz they KNOW the facts..(THANK YOU G-ROC FOR THE SCHOOLIN’)..been liking these since day one n plan on trying to get my pair..only thing I would change is the blue to red..otherwise dope shoe with a dope concept..n on the legal issues of shoes..sucks cuz entourages, freedys, and heavens gates would have been dope releases..bottom line Nike, or whatever brand, is gonna make emense amouts of money..what’s 1 mill gonna do to Nike?? Make more shoes??? Employ more ppl?? Maybe…….but seems selfish of those “names” to not let Nike put out a shoe for the CONSUMER to enjoy…
@bxsneakerhead – Thank you. I just wanted to make people see that it’s bigger than shoes, especially with the DB collection. The sneaker community can be so close-minded at times. I hope this post makes everyone view ALL DB shoes differently.
I never hated on the shoe. Very excited that they are coming out. Hoping AlSneaks can come through with a size 9 for me. Whoever wants to help I would be greatful. I will always love the IV. I don’t care what it looks like.
SIZE 9 AIR JORDAN IV. HELP PLEASE. WILL WORK FOR IV’S.
(i usually dont comment but because of the title of the post i had to)
.
lol @ the title of the post, im glad you wrote that though.
so tired of hearing people hate on these. These are 100% CRACK!
anyone who hates on them just mad they cant get em easily.
that superman logo is 100% pure Fire!!!
.
size 11 already in the bag!!!! #copped
Good story and message! I’m still not feeling the shoes tho…. If they had them in Kids I’d buy a pair for my son.
So whats really good ? are these definitely not going to be in atlanta?
This is why i barely read all the crap people write on blogs…All the people that claim that they didn’t want it will be the first one bying it and telling you why they had a change of heart at the last second lol..
i just hope i will be able to get a size 12 or 11.5…4s are my favorite all time and the meaning behind the shoes in the db line is always inspirational, just hate how people will make the site crash just so they can try to sell them to me for 400 bucks…what a waste
Haha G-roc scared off half the people with the title alone. I still am not a fan of the shoe, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have respect for both Nike, DB and of course the children involved. S/o and good luck to all those that wanted these out the gate. SMH at any that may have flipped for fear of gettin blasted on here. Lol
The Doernbecher series is always going to be crazy and out there. If they aren’t for you, so be it. The people who bash these designs either A. Don’t know what they are or B. Are just that mentally retarded.
That being said, IT ISN’T FOR YOU TO LIKE! The point of the Doernbecher Series is allowing an ill child to express himself creatively on probably one of the grandest stages of them all. I know my Doernbecher III’s from last year will be the one and only shoe i’ve purchased that I will probably never wear.
Respect to Isaiah Scott, his bravery and his creativity.
I loved them since day one and have been on the hunt waiting for them to drop. This is the first time I post on any site but I had to for this. I love kicks and rock mine. I’ve never sold a pair and certainly won’t sell these. But I have to say I loved them when I saw them and started loving them even more after seeing the kids stories unfold. All the kids, not just Isaiah. I wish I could buy all their sneakers but can only afford one and I’m glad to say that I got my wrist band @ niketown MIA yesterday and its on deck for my size 12 which ill one day proudly rock like no one else will…good luck to all the kids involved!!!
The little dude is cool.
I say you suck you suck if you can’t respect other peoples opinion! Might cop for my lil man though.
whoops on the typo! fail on my behalf, lol
its gonna be a long line tomorrow night…. 3-5 hrs easy!
Can someone help a brotha out… lil penny voice
Groc, good post, you got the Mic on this site bro. People forget what this sneaker is all about. No matter how you look at this sneaker with all the info in front of you. Hate is the last thing you can do.
Even though I wouldn’t wear these I do respect the fact a little kid made them.kids don’t understand color blocking and all that stuff we tend to have insight.if Nike was willing to give me a shoe as a kid best believe it would have had some wild colors on it too
Great post as always mr G-roc.. I’m not into the game as i used to , but i will def try to ge a pair to support the cause …
TSG CARES! Lol
@ G-roc are these only releasing online at Nike.com?
@ Groc will these be online at nike .com?
Sooooooooo…if you dont like the kicks, then you’re hating on them??? mm ok, that makes sense now. I DONT LIKE THEM, AND WILL NOT BE GETTING THEM!!! I understand its for a good cause, but i’ll just donate my money to the foundation instead of buyin the kicks. its really that simple. my “hate” for the kicks has nothing to do with lil dude…i’m actually glad he got to design them and what not, but that doesnt take away from the fact that i think they’re wack…*shurgsyeezysteezy*…i hope the best for lil dude tho, but i’ma call it how i see it.
Where do I send my donation to the Doernbecher Foundation?
if you didn’t get them you’ll wish you did.
3000 pairs worlwide and I got 1! I’m in love w these thank you Isaiah!!
