Michael Jordan Day (Hall of Fame)

NO DISRESPECT TO 9/11, but today is Michael Jordan Day in the sneaker community. Don’t have a hissy fit, just understand that today we want to pay homage to the guy that changed the game of basketball, and the shoe game. Today is MJ’s BIG day, and you can witness his induction tonight on ESPN.
Now that we cleared the air, this post is dedicated to MJ’s Hall of Fame induction. Feel free to discuss all things Michael “Air” Jordan in the comments. Favorite moment from MJ’s career, first pair of Air Jordans, favorite J’s, how MJ influenced you, or anything positive you wish to say about the G.O.A.T.
Congrats, MJ!
To many of us, Michael Jordan is more than sneakers. He was the guy that most tuned into from October and into late June every basketball season. You knew he was going to put on a show even in the worst of situations (sick games). We knew him as a winner on and off the court. If you were a fan of MJ of course you were a fan of the sneakers he donned brand new for home and away games, not to forget playoff, home and away games. Michael played the game in a way many of us would mimic all the time. I know growing up each neighborhood was filled with people that wanted to be the next MJ, but like MJ said himself, today there will be no next Michael Jordan. So, today we honor the greatest to ever play the game. Thank You Michael for all you have given to the game and to the culture. – Zorro
For all the people that don’t like our Michael Jordan Day title, Mr. Videoguy said it best via his twitter.

Mike vs Magic

Category: Air Jordan

Thanks, Mike!
.
I remember my 1st pair of J’s was the Infrared Air Jordan 6. My Mom bought them of course. I remember when she came home with them, I was getting ready to go to a birthday party. She said to me “The man at the store said these just came out today”. I remember that like it was yesterday. Lil big head G-Roc walked into the party thinking I was the ish. One thing I use to hate about having a small foot, my J’s didn’t have an air bubble…man I hated that.
.
Thanks, Mom for buying me Jordans, and thanks to Nike for signing MJ. I’ll always have love for MJ and his awesome sneaker line.
G.O.A.T. HOF….Long overdue….cold steel X’s.
My first pair of J’s was the White/Black/Fire Red 5′s. My mom got them for me when I was in the 3rd grade. People used to call me “the kid with the glass-bottom shoes”. I still consider those to be in my top 5 list of greatest Jordans. But G-Roc you already know what my favorite pair is……..Infrared 6′s all the way!!!
The greatest player ever to play the game. Congrats MJ!! We really miss seeing you play
first pair was the white/black-fire red v’s. they are my favorite air jordans to this day and my mommy also bought those lol. i would like to thank mj for making me spend all of my money on his shoes and thank you slam mag for their last issue paying tribute to mj and his way into the hof
I don’t remember my first J’s. I am a bit spoiled my first sneakers were OG Jordan IV’s. I never saw the box so I don’t know if they were called Sky Jordans in ’89. Since those whenever I asked for Jordans my clever parents always answered, ” You have already had some Jordans why don’t you try something new.” Then Jordan retired and I had convinced my parents that the Jordan IX were going to be the last shoe. My dad saved up and bought me a pair of Olive IX’s in my size and one in the next size up to rock in 1st and 2nd grade. I thought I was the freshest dude ever. I used to love stepping in the mud and getting that 1994 on the sole imprinted. Thanks Mike but most importantly thanks Tinker lol
nice post
my first pair of Jordans i bought by myself where the 17s the white and blue joints.. came with the suitcase that i still carry to this day. i was in 5th grade and saved up all of my money to buy them. from then on id become a shoe collector. i saw jordan play live once in my life and that was all i needed. if it wasnt for jordan i never wouldve picked up a basketball and therefore i never would have became the person i am today
my first pair of jays were the playoff 8 viii’s and my first pair that i bought with my own money were the cool grey 11 xi’s..I got very lucky when i bought those cool greys because i copped them when they already released 3 months before that. they were in a small sneaker shop in the Bronx and i copped the display pair which was a sz.12. Jordans always got me excited, whether i seen them on peoples feet or on my own. i started collecting kicks because of jordans. i like nikes too but jordans are my favorites. another cool thing is that i got to see MJ play against the Nets back in the day with my father and he scored like 40 something points. He was wearing the V’s i think. One of the most memorable sporting events that occured in my life.
first pair was v’s.
seeing the bread xis fir the first time is a moment i will never forget sure now they been retroed mutiple times an everybody has a pair but at the time those were the most jaw dropping shoe ever
thank u mj for making sneakers what they are today
All Hail The G.O.A.T. there’s too many great MJ moments to pick just one, but i think watchin MJ literally fly from the free throw line still sticks out in my mind as the top moment like when the other MJ first did the Moonwalk..and I need them shirts like yesterday…
V’s wit the 23 on the side were my first pair and i rocked the sole off of them. olympic 7′s, the exact X’s above, concord XI’s and white and black XIII’s were the only J’s i had growing up although i wanted all of them. That is why im so addicted to coppin the retros now and cant wait for 2010 !!!!!!congrats MIKE.
My most memorable Michael Jordan memory was watching him crying on the floor holding a basketball after winning the championship game…. such a sad moment knowing that his father wasn’t around anymore to congratulate him. The first pair of Jordans I saw were the Blk/Cement III’s but my fam. couldn’t afford them for me at that time, so I had to wait for a combined Christmas/birthday present to finally get a pair of Blk/Metallic V’s. It’s funny to admit this but the first time I saw the V’s wasn’t on the Fresh Prince, but on Who’s the Boss, Tony had on a pair. I also remember Damon Wanyans also had a pair on In living color, so you know I had to get ‘em.
Congrats to the greatest ever! first pair of j’s i bought my self were the 12′s..
I can remember getting my first job at 14 at a local Hallmark store. When I got my first check, my first cop were the Playoff 12s…I loved those joints until the “golf ball” (we called them) white and red 13s dropped. I never looked back and been a sneaker fiend ever since. I think my first pair were prolly a pair of hand me down cement 3s (from the Nike outlet, when it was worth something), but my feet were getting bigger than my brother’s at that point so I couldn’t rock them for long and after my pops put them in the washing machine my Grandmother was wearing then as yard shoes lol smh. I am celebrating this occassion by rocking 2 pairs of J’s a day and all the Mike23 gear I have all weekend maybe thru next week.
G-Roc: Where is the ATL viewing party kid!!!!
People make a big deal about 9/11 and we reacted poorly to the attacks. More people have died in the war, than in the actual tragedy. Bush should be tried as a war criminal.
Mcheal was the man, wish i had watched him more. I definitley respect the man. Congrats Mike, there will never be another like you.
MJ is no doubt the greatest to ever play the game of basketball, but is also so much more to so many people across the world…..He inspires people with his success, but is still so cool and humble that nobody can hate him.(I feel Jigga is very similar)…..He is and forever will be a role model of mine.
1st pair of J’s=White/Infrared VI’s – Big Kids Sz 5.5 – said Nike on the back without the AIR under it…..after that shoe, I wanted every shoe to have AIR on the back….Mom surprised when she said yes to those…first expensive shoe.
FAVORITE pair of J’s= the Air Jordan 3…..seeing him win the Dunk Contest in them was enough for me to start my infatuation with the shoes
FAVORITE Moment in MJ’s career for me was when he came back from retirement the first time and everybody realized he was still the ish.
Although I have never shaken hands with him I have seen MJ in person….nice guy from what I could tell.
Aj till I die!!he’s on espn now just highlights!first pair of k
Js powder blue 9s I know dis cuz my mom was holding me in her arms and at da bottom it had 94 on it and dey were lightblue!
My first pair of j’z was the blue white n gray 13z…. my sister actually bought them for my first year in high school (inglewood high) …till then I started my j,z collection… all my friends hated on me cuz I was the “yordan” man…. I gotta thank my big sis for all her blood sweat n tears to buy me what my parents couldn’t at the time…. the first pair of jays “I” bought was the retro black 3z wit the nike air logo on tha back….man I have all my jayz but those…… my dog died in my arms while I was wearin those and never saw them after that….. this was 6 years ago…. thanks mj for all the memories and confidence u gave all of us with just a pair of ur designed shoes….. the shoe game will never be the same witout u……. I’M MEXICAN BY THE WAY….

This Jordan guy is so over rated he really didn’t do anything IMO. Just another black man that could play the game of basketball, there are plenty of players that r wayyy better than this joke. The shoes were/are awful!!
my first pair of jordan were the air jordan 4′s and i wore my 11′s today to honor the G.O.A.T congrats mike
Mike u r the greatest to ever play the game PERIOD. Tommaso u r a hater ain’t nobody on mike level. U will never be able to accomplish what he did. We love u MJ.
Tommaso <– This guy
There's always one…
"Go that wayyyy" – Big Pun
Congrats MJ no doubt the G.O.A.T. remember my first j’s were the columbia XI’s. Never forget watchin him beat up on my SuperSonics in 96 … still love you Mike but damnit Seattle needed that ship.
David Robinson is going in. Bout to make me cry. lol
BRED IV, she couldn’t afford them and made it happen… like many other things… such as private school as a single parent. Thanks Ma.. Thanks MJ.
9/11, a great day.
My 1st Jordans were the Bred XI’s, remember my mom n pops taking me to the mall to get them for my b-day. They were retros then, I wanted the black and blue XVIII’s but they didn’t have my size so I got the Legendary Bred XI’s.
My favorite Michael Jordan quote, “I can accept failure, I can’t accept not trying”. – On coming back with the Washington Wizards. So powerful!
I remember watching Jordan going up against Stockton and Malone in the play offs, and be like this dude can’t be stopped period. I remember i used to be a baseball fan till i seen him play, and i would pick up a soccer ball cuz it was all i had and tried to mock at least the moves Jordan did on the games. His love for the game was a big push for me to follow what i love and be the best at it. Thanks for your amazing career and your sneaker line that will never ever be surpassed!
my first pair of jays hat i bought were the white infared sixs i liked them so much i got 2 more pairs that was when i was in 7th grade and i still own one pair of them
typo^^^^ that
oh groc i was watching nbatv and they were showing the hall of fame red carpet show and mj said he might return when he is 50
Tomashoe.is uncalled for sir .smh
thats wats up. i want that perform like mike shirt.
My first pair were the white/Carolina blue IX’s……I remember my mom hiding them behind the couch…..i was the freshest lil dude in kindergarten….
Wooowwwww.. MJ… I remember being on the college b-ball team in 92′ and borrowing my man’s infrared VIs, VIIs & playoff VIIIs…over two years. My life was never the same. I vowed the first chance I got I was going to buy any Jordan… First pairs I bought with my own money were both the charcoal and olive IXs.. Being from the islands.. I had the Xs with the toe cap mailed to me by my cousin in NJ….. Didn’t buy the XI…copped the red/wht XIIs, the black XIIIs…skipped the XIV and copped the stealth XVs…stopped buying Js until I saw the return of the infrared VIs which I missed because they sold out in 3hrs…. THAT IS WHY JANUARY WILL SEE AM95CONNOISSEUR possibly, for the FIRST TIME EVER, cop 2 of the same shoe. The VI,VII, VIII & XII (wht/red colorway only) mean a lot to me… I remember jumping on my couch in 98 when MJ stole the ball from Malone and went down to the other end and schooled Byron Russell…. I bought the SI mag with MJ taking the “LAST SHOT”…. The shoe is a staple in my upbringing….. can’t let it go. Hope my son wears a 13 when he grows up… would love to pass the collection on to him…
jordannnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love how he just said “sh*t” on national TV…lol LONG LIVE THE G.O.A.T..
Jordan wont claim it but he is no doubt the GOAT!! nba should retire the number 23 throught the entire league like 42 in baseball ( i know Mr. Robinsons is a completly different story for baseball and this is in no disrespect to him just pointing it out) and 99 in hockey because how great wayne gretzky was and what he did for hockey! Imo the nba should do what the nhl did and retire the number 23!! what Jordan did for basketball and what he did in the shoegame for 25 years and counting will never be repeated!! ever!!! Congrats MJ! thanks for everything exepet beating my SUNS in 93!!
lol @ WEEZY23…. This cat just said he might be playing @ 50yrs old!!!!!!!!!
G-Roc what do have to say about that??????….
I am having a hard time not believing this guy..He loves shutting up the HATERS….as was the main theme throughout his whole “Thank You” Speech…
am consuior or whatever ur wack name is u should lol at urself i agree with weezy23 they should retire the number 23 and for someone who said his shoes played a great role in ur life wouldnt that be a respectful thing for the nba to do he did a lot for a lot of people idiot!
this first paycheck i ever got i immediately spent on a pair of black cats ivs, my 1st and fav pair of js. my fav jordan moment was when he made that shot against utah in 98. the only thing im dissapointed in is that they released the hall of fame pack with those hideous 1s, six rings, and 2009s. jb should have released some colorways that he actually wore…. jb really crapped out on that one. If it were up to me the hall of fame pack would have conisited of the og white black red 1s, the chicago 10s, and the white/blue xviiis. All shoes indicating different points of jordans career and all three havent been re-released in a while.
^^^^ “the fist paycheck” goddamit…..
^^^ first…. i need a drink…….
o.g. military blue IVs…word….and yes, they had air….congrats money! thanks for everythinG!
