Michael Vick Contract Terminated by Nike – It’s Over!

Nike Zoom Vick 5

Breaking news about Vick’s Nike contract

I knew it was coming! After the news released this week about Vick’s dogfighting plea deal I knew Nike would end his contract. Nike announced this news hours after Vick made the plea agreement in federal court in Richmond, VA. Here’s what Nike had to say “Nike has terminated our contract with Michael Vick following today’s release of details of his plea. As we have said in previous statements, we consider any cruelty to animals inhumane, abhorrent and unacceptable.” As many of you may know last month Nike suspended his contract, basically awaiting to see the final outcome of this issue. However terms of Vick’s deal with Nike has not been released. It’s confirmed that the Zoom Vick 5 will not release, and they have pulled all of his products from stores. Over the next few weeks expect to see Vick’s Nike clothing and shoes in a Nike Outlet near you.

We have to ask, if you could PLEASE take a minute and let us know if you think Nike made the right move. Yes or No will do, but if you feel the need to vent, go right ahead. Vote and if need be, leave a comment. Thanks in advance!

  1. Well let me be the 1st to comment. Like I said, I knew this was coming once the news hit. However I’m sad to hear about this entire issue about ATL’s own Michael Vick. I don’t agree at all with his recent behavior, but I feel it’s being hyped up too much by the media. We have all types of things going on in the world, and the media is acting like Vick was killing humans. Once again I’m not saying it’s ok to kill dogs, but the law should treat all animals with the same respect.

Instead they issue license to go fishing, deer hunting, duck hunting, etc. We even kill cows, chicken, etc. What if dog became a popular dish in the US? (YUCK!) Would they then make it legal to kill dogs? All I’m saying is the rules should be the same for everything. It’s almost like Dog and Man are equal and we know that’s not the case. TRUE, dog is man’s best friend, but dog is not human (think about it).

I guess it’s easy for me to say since I’m not an animal lover, but I never wish harm on any of them. Yes Vick was wrong, and he should have to face his bad decision. However the media should not try to ruin his repuatation, he’s already been sucessful at doing it on his own. Please note this my opinion, and this is how I feel. I would love to hear what TSG readers have to say.

If Arthur Blank decides to let Vick go, the Falcons games will never be the same without Vick. Vick stay up, and please learn from your mistake. We still got much love for ya in Atlanta!

  2. Well here is my opinion. It was pretty stupid of Nike to terminate his contract, because if you think about it like G ROC said. It’s not like he was killing people. Im not an animal lover myself but DAMN, contract got terminate. I dont believe that was necessary. At least they could of let him release his last shoe. LOl, but at least his shit will be for the cheap now, but still Nike didnt make the right choice. ( My Opinion )

  3. didn’t kobe choke a bitch, his shoes still came out

  4. Naw man they did Vick wrong. If that’s the case a lot of ppl should have lost their contracts. Vick did make a mistake but they didn’t have to cut ties with him.

  5. what about the lux af1 nike says there real croc and snake thats animal crulety but in reality there not even real croc or snake even the fat joes are fake croc

  6. Nike is dumb for this one. I know it’s suppose to be a smart business move and all but this story doesn’t add up right. They didn’t do anything to Kobe. Like the inside man said they use animal materials to make their shoes and all. I don’t think they should terminated him, they should have released the Vick V’s. After the smoke clears they could have went back to making his stuff. Some of his fans are made but most of them still like him.

  7. act like mike vicks shoe sold. after number 3, his shoe was allready done for.

  8. ANY OF YOU MOTHER LOVERS THAT SAY THAT NIKE MADE A WRONG MOVE IN TO TERMINATING THAT DUDES CONTRACT DONT CARE ABOUT ANIMALS. FORGET ALL OF YOU MOTHER LOVERS.

Yes I love animals, but com’on we all make wrong decisions in the spur of any moment. What Nike did was pretty rash and predictable, what they should’ve done instead is freeze or discontinue Vick’s endorsements and products until everything is resolved and settled.

People can say Nike was wrong for killing Vick’s contract but, from a business standpoint, how would that look if people, most likely Nike consumers, see them “supporting” a man who would do something like that. They really had no choice, his shoes were not selling real well and then this happens. It was bound to happen. Now the whole “government is tripping about dog fighting” thing is just crazy. There is nothing wrong with fishing. If people aint eating the fish, they usually throw it back in the water. And I don’t see people raising deer and ducks so they can make bets on which one will beat the crap out the other. So stop it. Bottom line, if you were a big wig in Nike, if you was smart, you would do the same thing they did. They weighed their options: 1) side with Vick and suffer the wraith of the media and the people, which would have the possibility to lose sales all over, or 2) be like everyone else who said that Vick was wrong and take “action”. I figure they thought that it would be much better to make a small portion of the paper for the “right” reasons then to make front page for the “wrong” reasons. Business is business, and Vick should have known, as well as everyone else here, that something was gonna happen, especially with Nike. Now the whole Kobe thing…the people didn’t turn the heat on Kobe like they did Vick. It was a different situation, and you can’t compare the two.

  11. Thanks for your feedback Kicksta, this is the type of stuff I want to see, people expressing how they feel. So far 56% voted No, and 44% said Yes. Let’s keep the votes and comments coming!

I dont agree with kicksta 100%. It was a business move and Nike is a business but like Rich Young said, Nike should have froze his contract until this mess clears. Everyone is quick to jump on sides when the heat is turned up. Once this becomes old news and once Mike comes back to the NFL people will want his stuff. Everyone besides the doggie lovers. Everyone is NOT a doggie lover, people like dogs and Mike was a bit harsh, ok very harsh. People forgive and forget and Nike doesn’t want the heat right now, but they’ll prob resign him. My vote went to NO. If you dont agree SO WHAT. I still like Mike and his sneaker line.

It was predictable what Nike was going to do. They have already stripped stores of his jersey and etc. It was just a matter of time. In my opinion, I feel that the media has blown this whole thing out the water. Don’t get me wrong, Vick was wrong in any participation in these dog crimes. But, I feel that it’s wrong to single him out since there are other crimes done by people and other celebrities. Ex. Paris Hilton and Lidnsey Lohan can have multiple DUI’s but can spend 82 minutes in jail. If I’m not mistaken, when you drive under the influence, you put at risk the lives of other people. It seems that dogs are at the same level as humans now. Wow, what a concept!!!!!

bottom line.. he’s doing jail time. how is he gonna market his shoes from behind bars. Nike did what they had to do, what im more concerned about is whether or not he’ll be banned from the nfl for life. The new commish has lost his mind and he’s been suspending players like its going out of style. after seeing what he did to pacman for a few misdameanors, what do you thbink is gonna happen to Vick.

but back to the shoes, nike did the right thing his job for them was to sell shoes and products. Now that he isnt able to do that, the got rid of him.

He is the deal as I see it. Vick got caught doing something illegal, running a dog fighting operation, and insisted to the Commissioner of football and his sponsors that he was innocent of the charges and would be vindicated in court. His instance of innocence has now turned out to be a lie as proven by his copping a plea. No to mention what still might come out when he disclose all the info the government wants for his plea agreement. We support people who participate in dog killing and gambling on illegal activates would be a great slogan for a Nike t-shirt at Footlocker right? I know it’s no Bo knows… but then Vick’s kicks were never as good as Bo’s anyway. He blew with the NFL and Nike when he lied to them and then did a 180. Not that smart of a move. As for the Kobe argument if I recall the charges were dropped, we had the huarache (sp?) 2k4 and 2k5 before the ZK1, and I don’t see him on Sprite commercials anymore. Is killing a dog akin to killing a person? No. Is killing multiple dogs in an illegal gambling operation and then lying about it to everyone and then taking a plea making your bosses look stupid a reason for your employers to fire you? I know I’d be fired if I did the same thing.
