Omar Salazar spoke to RadCollector about his Nike SB signature skate shoe. James Arizumi and Omar speak on the design process, inspiration, and developing the logo. Omar definitely provides some interesting insight about the process of his shoe. Congrats to Omar Salazar for getting his own shoe, and the Zoom Omar Salazar SB is now available at Nike SB accounts. Check out the video.
The problem with Nike from the past 15yrs has been that they only hire professional shoe designers. People that have gone to art and design schools and can’t think outside the box. Of course this isn’t a bad thing, but when all they’re producing is retros and sneakers inspired from the past, then to me they have failed in their creativity. I think the best sneakers that Nike has produced has been from people that have no past experience with sneakers. Their only requirement being having acquired a discipline in a different trade, be it architecture, accounting or sports. These people come in with revolutionary ideas because they’re starting from scratch. With respect to what Omar had to say, I loved his ideas of inspiration from science fiction from the 60’s, that was creative. But what James, the designer did was keep it safe and uncreative. I hate the Vans halfcab silhouette with flywire technology. It reeks of keeping it safe and uncreative, something that is bound to eventually make Nike labeled a boring brand.
very intriguing shoe & looks like a very functional skate shoe…i wonder if 23edge has ever skated before…sometimes shoes are more for function than to sit in someone’s box as a collectors item…this siloutte is an all time best for skating…mid high padded to protect your ankles…definitely gonna try this out…
Wow, he sounds about as intelligent as Keanu Reeves.
Sick shoe, design, stash tongue, pot head plus.
midsole is a little thick, this same silhouette is possibly my favorite, very early nineties feel.
