Sneakerheads LOVE to Camp – Lobster SB Dunk

| June 6, 2008 | Comments (21)

Since when did people start sleeping outside for sneakers? Why would you stand in line for three days in Harvard Square? These are just a few questions that people were asking last week during the Lobster Dunk release at Concepts. We’ve seen some long lines at super limited releases, but the Lobster Dunk line was crazy long. Peep the video and check out what some of the campers had to say, including #1 in line. Oh yeah, Lobsters coming soon to select SB accounts.

Quick question: When did camping for sneakers get popular? Supremes, Espo’s, etc

Check out the line after the jump…

    That long was extra long…

So when did camping start? I’m talking about real camp outs, the ones where people sleep outside for 2 days or more.

  2. Dc's Kingofsneaks says:

  3. cantstopthebest says:

that line was mad long. i think campouts started getting crazy when the dmp’s dropped. people were camping 5 days before the release.

  4. kolboy757 says:

First off G-Roc this is the first time i said somthin up here ive been lookin at this website for a year love the site homie. second i think its crazy to camp out for 2 or more days just for shoes that will stay in your closet. Hype kills…

  5. Jay Bills says:

  6. C Lo says:

I’ve been camping for shoes since the mid 90′s. Never more than 8 hours. It really depends on your city. LA & NY have more than a few spots to get limited shoes from. Where, here in NC, we only have 2 spots in the whole state that get SB’s. I do a little research before I camp out. If I can find them from a friend in LA or Miami, I’d rather kick out an extra $50-$75 to sleep in the house that night and not have to miss any work. Take the Skate or Die’s for example. The store here had them for $125, people started camping at 7pm the day before. The store didn’t open till 11AM the next day. Not to mention we had freezing rain that night. Well, I got a pair from my boy in Miami for $179 shipped. Yeah, I paid $54 more for them, but I got to sleep in a warm bed that night and didn’t risk getting sick. Which I would have then had to kick out money for the doctor and meds. It really depends on the shoe and how limited they are. I use to be at every Jordan release before I got into SB’s. I got tired of so many people having those same Jay’s. Like I said before, only 2 stores in my state get SB’s, so chances are, I will see way less people with my shoes on.

  8. dj.jbras says:

It would have been one thing if the lobsters were not being re-released, I would never camp for 3+ days just to get the extra box!!!! Silly…

  9. grymg says:

funny how you see ebay after the release, seems like every other dunk sb on there was the lobster. So no, doesn’t look like people bought them to wear! But seriously if you’re taking 3 days out to make profit you could have made more by just working your normal 9-5

  10. jhendri5 says:

The longest i ever camped out was a couple of hours. That was a Ruin in ATL waiting on the skate or dies and i was inside. I always go to midnight releases for j’s so thats never more than a couple of hours.

  11. CoRY says:

DAAAYYYEEEM, i had no idea the lobsters would be this popular when the pics where first leaked haha:)

  12. Vic says:

Y’all crazy…hope y’all not claiming to be sneakerheads.
I mean how you saying you would never camp out, I live near
cambridge & if they i actually like the dunks you would’ve
seen me in line for sure. & people ask why? Why? Nigga for
the love of the shoe, thats why! Cause I love this shit
genuinely to the death of it. Lets just say I’m more of a
    sneakerhead than you.

  13. bdr says:

    Ha, ha,

I just picked mine up at Stussy in SF, CA!

Boy those East Coast people are looking very odd. :)

  14. tWin #1 says:

Too much IMO….sums up the shoe game right now…More the love of money than the love of the shoes…Most of these peopel driven by hype…

  15. mr.madison says:

g roc you know what it is here.

titaniums thats was a raw line but at least it got cut off at 23 cause well there was only 23.. but 200 shoes… that line was STUPID

but shit ill camp for some sb for 8- 12 hrs to get them at retails.. sod’s i coped 3 pairs all at 75 b4 tax… sold 2 of those for no less then 200 so yeah .. that was worth my time.. and i still made it to work with time to spare

  16. Backroad says:

Dayum, that line was no joke! I personally think it’s great that people share such a huge passion for kicks. I’ve never had to wait in line because the demand isn’t as high in Louisville, KY as it is in big cities, but you better believe I’d be in line for a must have pair if need be.

  17. Hyphy J lover says:

It’s crazy to see what hype does to a shoe. I don’t really think these are that tight. That line was pretty crazy though. I’ve been to many campouts, but the only one that was crazier than this was the DMPs. There was about 450+ just mobbing in front of the footlocker at fashion valley, san diego. The police department was called and they came in full force riot gear. Footlocker only had 26 pairs, and was told by police that the only they were gunna be able to sell the shoes was by a raffle. That wasn’t right, there were some marines from organ that camped out for 6 nights, only to go home empty handed

  18. Quail says:

So how does it work? Can they get up and leave or do they have to sit there the whole time. Do people try to cut them once the doors open? whats the deal with wating for shoes?

  19. that’s crazy I’ve never would stand in line days at a time to get some kicks

DANG THEY MUST HAVE TOOK A VACTION AT WORK TO GET THEM JOINTS LAMES!!!!!LOL
I didnt even stand in line for my DMP’s

They got alot of time to stand in line….

  20. Ray says:

yeah no need to camp for these wack shoes.

  21. TokyoMike says:

I bet dude’s thought it was only gonna be 200 total pairs…..WRONG ANSWER LOL!!! I got mine over a month ago here for about $120 (no stupid box or anything…..straight up Gold Box….) The shoe itself is nice, but nothing to put away…..just a nice looking pair of beaters.
