Celebrating their 2nd birthday is Brazil based sneaker website, SneakersBR. The site was developed by sneaker collector, Ricardo Nunes who originally started the site as a blog to vent about the culture. SneakersBR’s role is “soley” responsible for integrating the sneaker culture into Brazil with its universal news. In recognition of their success, Nike rewarded their accomplishment with an Lanceiro Air Max 1 Quickstrike.
The shoe pays homage to Pernambuco, the birthplace of the site and even more so the Manguebeat which is a pop culture and musical movement that emerged in Brazil in the 90s. Much of the sneakers color and design cues come from the Spear of Cabolco, a colorful celebration in which men adorn themselves in a showy display of dazzaling headresses and luxurious beaded costumes which are reflected on the insoles, laces and back portion of the AM1. Blue and white leather upper represent the Pernambuco flag, yellow air bags correspond with the sun, and the translucent splattered mud midsole takes inspiration from the mangroves instrumental to Manguebeat. A quote located on the heel from Chico Science, the forefeather of Mangue Beat reads, “Um Passo a Frente e Voce Ja Nao Esta Mais No Mesmo Lugar” (One step ahead and you’re no longer in the same place) in 3m material.
Aside from the quickstrike editon releasing worldwide to exclusive retailers, a swanky wooden box edition loaded with other goods will be given to influencers of the world in June, the same time as the Brazil only edition will be sold.
