TSG Exclusive: Atmos 4 Year Anniversary Party Recap

This past week marked the 4 year anniversary of the Japanese retailer and streetwear brand, Atmos. They celebrated with legendary graffiti artist and underground train muralist, James Top. The event was a red carpet celebration with the likes of, Danny Simmons, Fab 5 Freddy, Charlie Ahearn, Teyanna Taylor, Ralph Mc Daniels, Pop Master Fabel, Bill Adler, Michael Jordan, Busy P, and Kanye West. Join TSG on what may have been, the party of the year…

About Atmos: The Brand is one of the leading retailers and connoisseurs in urban street wear. They have done memorable and up-and-coming sneaker collaborations with sneaker brands such as, Nike, New Balance, Reebok, Lacoste and K-Swiss. They also carry many exclusive-limited run clothing and accessories at these very modern looking stores. Check out their most recent collaboration with the Loots clothing company. It’s only available at the ATMOS NYC store.
About James Top: At the age of 12, he ventured into the art of graffiti. He was one of founding members for the legendary graffiti crew “The Odd Partners” from the 1970s. This crew would become one of the leaders in the train muralist scene during the mid to late ’70s in NYC. Today, James has taken his knowledge of this art form as a consultant to many high schools, colleges and art groups.
To celebrate their 4 year anniversary, Atmos teamed up with James Top for his first solo art exhibit “Afros on 125th Street“. He used his skills to venture and create a theme around the 1970s ‘Afro’ hairstyle. On these canvases he has illustrated humorous and serious messages about being an African American in the United States and New York City. These pieces are still up at the store and open to the public’s viewing pleasure during regular business hours.
TSG was at the, invite only, premier sneak peek party at Atmos NYC. Put it like this, if you wasn’t on the list you weren’t getting in. Even some people on the list didn’t get to come inside. That’s how packed this place was (you’ll see by the photos below). It got to the point where they tried to have people move further back, so they could let some of the 100+ people still waiting outside.
The people were fun and friendly with lots of energy. It was a good looking crowd too. Everybody showing up in proper fits. You had music by DJ Tunka, and by Hip Hop’s first Latino DJ, DJ Disco Wiz. The drinks were provided by Hennessy and AMP. It was a great and successful event overall. It was good to see people having a blast in their favorite spot to shop at, Atmos. Look for the Michael Jordan, Kanye West and Busy P pictures below.
Here you can see some of James Top work that is still on display at the store.

The promo poster for the event. One lucky person won a limited print of this there.

At the event I caught a glimpse of Michael Jordan, Busy P, Kanye West, and Tinker Hatfield. Check some of the heat worn at the event. Did I get you?

Yeah, it was a great party indeed. Everyone there was civil and having a good time. Even the folks that couldn’t make it in were some what understanding. It’s great to see companies like Atmos do events like these for their communities. It’s a sign of friendship, care and understanding that without them (the consumer) they wouldn’t be anywhere. When you build from that, you gain a culture that will always give back. With the way times are at the moment, this is something we could all use.
You can visit Atmos and the James Top exhibit at 203 west 125th street (between 7th and 8th ave), New York City, NY 10027. Phone number 212.666.2242 and web link Atmos NYC. They are located near the Apollo Theater and close to the House Of Hoops. Check them out for the latest sneaker and clothing gear. Some of brands they carry are Nike, New Balance, Reebok, Adidas, Puma, Polo Footwear, Hello Kitty, Stussy, Supra, Obey, Rogue Status, and Loots. Check them out and tell them TSG sent ya!
Thank you to Paul Lee for the invitation and extended thanks from the TSG family to the Atmos family. With out places and venues, like Atmos, it would be hard to find the latest, hottest footwear and urban street wear near you. You do have online stores, but there’s nothing like the feeling of a store having what your looking for, right than and there.
Stay tuned for exclusive Atmos news only on TSG!
