LeBron James & Nike Stage an Impossible Comeback to Hold Off Curry & Under Armour
No team in the history of the NBA has ever recovered from a 3-1 deficit in the Finals. However, on June 19th, 2016, history was made as the Cleveland Cavaliers out played the Golden State Warriors to take the crown for redemption.
This series meant more than just a rematch on the court.
Under Armour has been steadily gaining marketshare on Nike in the Basketball category and outperforming every major brand on the planet this year. So much so, the VP and Brand Manager at Nike Basketball was recently fired. A Golden State Warriors Championship meant that Under Armour stole the best record/best season story from Nike and Michael Jordan only 6 months after the celebratory Air Jordan 11 "72-10" was released.
LeBron James and Nike had their backs against the wall. With the Swoosh putting all of their chips in James' corner, the Cleveland native had to play like Superman to defeat all odds and he did.
Averaging 34+ points, 12+ rebounds and 9 assists in the last three games of the series as well as record high TV ratings, LeBron wrote his name in the history books for people to remember forever. And he did so wearing the Nike LeBron Solider 10 in a black/gold colorway that's set to release on June 21st.
Will Nike create a LeBron Championship pack? Only time will tell. Salute to the 2015- 16 NBA Champion Cleveland Cavaliers.
