Adventures with TokyoMike (PX Megastore)
Back again from Sneaker Heaven, AKA Tokyo Japan, it's that time again people.......you already know the drill. Get a cool drink, a bib to drool on, and prepare to see another shop that is pretty sure to make some people sit up and take notice. TSG, meet my good friend, PX Megastore.
PX is located in Kichijoji.......right down the street from K-Skit and a few minutes walk from LA Avenue AKA Napsize..........As if that area didn't have enough insane sneaker shops right!? Judging from the stores available kicks, I think PX stands for "Please X-ray my chest because I'm having a heart attack." The pictures I took are from their Kichijoji branch, which technically speaking, is the second shop they have.....there's the OG store a few minutes away by train in Ogikubo, and a third shop elsewhere in Japan. The original shop opened in 2008 according to the lunatic working there......I don't know his name.....I'll just call him "Gus." Gus says they opened in 2008, so that's what I'm rollin' with. Gus works his a$$ off in that place.....everytime I see him, he's on the phone makin' moves, stocking new product, etc......no sleep for the sneaker hustlers of Japan I guess.....same with the CUTE Japanese girl who works the second floor.....don't know her name either, so I'll give her a good Japanese sounding name.........."Shaquita."
Shaquita works her buns off upstairs, helping customers get their stuff together, trying on stuff etc......and like most typical Japanese workers in a "service" capacity, she carries your stuff downstairs when you're ready to pay for it.....can't lie, you feel like a real P-I-M-P walking out of the upstairs, with your little sneaker slave carrying your kicks for you.....like you're a damn KING or something.....kinda makes you wanna buy a person and make em carry your shoe boxes all the time......I wonder how much a human slave-child costs on the internet?.......damn I'm losing focus.....OK, onto the shoes......
First thing you notice about the shop is, they always have a bin of kicks out in front, for sale.....always a good thing to check the sales racks because, you never know. Beater OG SC's for $30.00?!....I'll take em!....we all need beaters to wear while mowing the lawn or jumping someone into our motorcycle gang. Something else about the first floor, is the oddball stuff.....MJ sports cards, a display with some DEADSTOCK 1's for sale, older Jordan shirts and hats.....lots of stuff you just don't see everyday trying to shop at Foot Action while their annoying, clueless staff members hound you for commission.....Gus and Shaquita know what time it is and aren't up in PX foolin' around!!
Inside, if you can catch your breath and actually look around at the structure of the place, you'll notice you're actually in a tiny, 3 story house converted into a living, breathing sneaker orgy. I've seen people walk in, look on the first floor, and roll out.....not knowing there's two more floors of kicks to go thru......SMH, some people are so ignorant......being the hater that I am, I usually don't say anything to em.....I just let em walk out.....especially if they look like they wear an 11.......when I want competition, I'll play football or Monopoly.......I'm trying to cop kicks, so different rules apply. Can't take any chances.
First floor........sweet mama, we're dealing with alot of brands down here. Nike, regular type and SB, Adidas, Puma, Visvim, Reebok, DADA, Yums (<-JOKES!) blah blah name it and it's there blah......some old stuff, and some new stuff too. Space Jams?......full size run available, $210.00 a pair. Aqua 8's in a few sizes, Carmine 6's, ALIFE X Reeboks, LIVESTRONG FLOM's and Forces, and more and more as far as newer releases, plus the real heaters Gus and Shaquita keep on a rack behind their pathetically small cash register area......like Wu Tangs, Mark Ronson's (ASK if you don't know...I know Greg Street knows what's up with the Ronson's,) What The Dunks, Stones Throw Dunks....stuff we'll all never own lol......I apologize for mentioning these and NOT having a pic....they were really hard to get a good shot of.....but, they do have some OG "Gucci" SB's for sale also, and yes, they make the RESN's look like dookie stains. They were a size 10.5 I think. If anyone wants em, just hit me up, cut me a check for the $2,790.00 they're asking for em, and I'll make it happen. I'm sure my email will be blowing up with this offer in no time at all.
On to the second floor......man, honestly, the second floor kinda shakes you up if you like Jordans......it's small as hell, but like you can see, they don't throw a pair of stank a$$ Jordan 15's on the wall and call it a day. You want it, they've got it. Lots of goodies to choose from, and the prices are fair to say the least. Tons of OG's, tons of Retro's.....I stood back and actually tried to find something "missing" from their Jordan section, and the only thing I could think of was "I don't see any Mocha 3's"......but, truth be told, it's understandable, because LOTS of Japanese sneakerheads rock em, so I assume if they hit the shelves, they're gone within a day or so. At this point, I made my first purchase, which was some DS Retro Jordan 5's from 1999 for a whopping $57.00.....ALMOST my best purchase of the day..... I only saw ONE pair of Fusions on the second floor (Thank God in some aspects I guess....) and those were the "Wine N' Grind" Burgundy/Gold AFJ5's, which honestly, don't look too bad. Ticket price is a hefty $370.00, so I did what alot of y'all would've done....I laughed and started making my way to the 3rd floor.
OK.....third deck......it's a really small area up there, split into two small rooms. Small as in, if you were a kid raised in those rooms, you'd have psychological problems from sensory deprivation.....small, CREEPY rooms, full of nice kicks. Room number one is another section of Nike's SB models.....Dunks, Blazers, P-Rods, etc.....maybe 40 pairs total, and their stock always changes over fast, so it's different everytime I'm there. I think I trumped my best SB pickup this time thru when I hit the 3rd floor....I found some VNDS Jedi SB's for $120.00.....not bad at all, especially since I've been looking for Jedi's for a minute. They had two pairs of the white/blue Supreme SB's, and a few other pairs that made me kiss my hand, make the sign of the cross, and thank God for living here once again.
In the other 3rd floor room, they keep their adopted kids with the limps, bad teeth, and the lazy eyes, AKA, the Air Force 1's and BAPE's. Now, I'm not a huge fan of Forces, but I'll be damned if I didn't spend a good minute debating on grabbing a pair or two. Snakeskins, LA's, UNDFTD's, Easter Eggs, man look, I don't even know all the AF1 nicknames, so feel free to name em yourself.......all I know is, they have a good amount, and the prices were REAL good.....UNDFTD's were maybe $100.00, and so were alot of the others. They had a few pairs of SC's, Footscapes, and Air Max's in that room too, but mostly Forces......a fair amount of BAPE Roadsta's......oh, and ALOT of the older Nike boxes stacked up, makin' my damn mouth water. Nike, please, get rid of that horrid orange box and go back to the black/red joints. I'm begging you.
Overall, PX Megastore is my FAVORITE shop in Japan. K-Skit's got the biggest selection, LA Ave's got alot of really rare stuff, but as far as finding stuff at a price that makes you take the shoe to Shaquita and ask "hey, is this price correct?!" you CANNOT beat PX Megastore. Best prices in Japan by far, Gus is mad cool, Shaquita the Sneaker Box Carrying Queen is hot, and that's all she wrote!.......
Hope you like the pics, thanks to G-Roc for posting my stupidity, and peace out to all the TSG'ers!!
