Inside the Madness at Trophy Room Grand Opening
"Damn Marcus Jordan's mentions are in shambles already [lol]," I said to myself while scrolling Twitter at 4AM after my alarm went off to ensure I would make this flight to Orlando.
It's the big day, Trophy Room's grand opening--the first store opened by heir to the Jordan throne.
Prior to the opening, Marcus Jordan and his new boutique located in Disney Springs provided two pages of instructions on how to cop the limited edition restocks that were going to be available. It seemed like they really were prepared to handle the madness. Trophy Room also announced two Air Jordan 23 collaborations. Sneakerheads from all over the country drove as many as 17 hours and caught flights to get their hands on the heat. Moments don't get much bigger than this in the culture.
MADNESS ON THE OUTSIDE
Only 4 hours into the day, sneakerheads were already complaining about wristbands that were given out early at 4AM the previous day instead of 7AM (as the rules posted by TR store suggested).
Even though it's a Jordan affiliated shop, still you should always expect the jig.
To coincide with the 5/23 theme (Marcus Jordan and his Dad's jersey numbers), the shop would open its doors at 5:23AM. By 6AM Twitter exploded as Trophy Room announced it sold out of OVO 10s, PSNY 12s, Just Don 2s, and Trophy Room Air Jordan 23s...[ insert HOW SWAY meme here].
Over 1000 wristbands were given out, so you can imagine how upset the entire line was only an hour into the grand opening. Trophy Room held a Friends & Family event the night prior which seemed to empty out a good amount of the stock.

"WE'RE NOT LETTING ANYBODY IN, THE REGISTERS ARE DOWN," yelled a Trophy Room security guard. Now the jig counter is currently at three as the shop hustled to try to get the POS up and running.
Sneakerheads let out a sigh of relief once UPS showed up with more boxes to replenish what was out of stock. Maybe those registers breaking down was a blessing in disguise because the next wave of customers were able to cop PSNY 12s and multiple pairs of the Trophy Room 23s.
The worst jig of them all happened the moment Trophy Room staff decided to sell sneakers to anyone who pushed their way to the front before separating the line by cash and credit card transactions. Dudes were heated!
At 11AM nearing wristbands only in the 400's, another announcement by annoyed security guards roared through the crowd, "THERE'S NO MORE WHITE GOLD 23's, SO DON'T ASK!"
The intense Florida Sun was starting to shine and the fear of not copping any heat was setting in for sneakerheads who had been camping for hours. You felt the disappointment in the air.

THE PRESENCE OF GREATNESS INSIDE
The morning of the grand opening was chaotic and some would say a let down, but once inside all those sour feelings were left at the door. You're greeted by a huge display of the Trophy Room Air Jordan collection that leaves you in awe. Then you look down and there are the rarest sneakers ever seen inside a retail store such as Usher's Gold AJ3, Macklemore's AJ6, and more. To your right, there's Marcus Jordan taking photos and greeting every single customer in the store.
Every employee was as friendly and welcoming as possible, a complete opposite vibe from the terrible security guards on the outside. You'd think the heir to the Air Jordan legacy would be walking around with his nose held high, but nope. Marcus was just as engaging and social in real life as he is when jumping on Twitter to speak to the world.
What captures you most is the abundance of personal photos mounted to every wall of the store. Photos of the entire Jordan family sharing intimate moments , wearing Jays, and even at Disney World after Championship seasons covered the walls. That's what makes Trophy Room extremely special. You feel more connected to Michael Jordan than ever. The shop feels like an extension of the family's home.
Sure, outside of the limited restocks, the inventory is comparable to what you'd find at any boutique. But, something every boutique doesn't have is the authentic experience to learn more about Michael Jordan through the person who can best tell his story, his successor Marcus.
They say Disney World is the happiest place on Earth. Well, it just became a bit more special with the addition of Trophy Room. Make sure you add it on your To-Do list right next to finding Mickey Mouse when the family visits Orlando.
