The 1990 Air Jordan 5 Scrapped Sample That Finally Made It Out Of The Archives

A few months ago TSG broke the story on what really inspired the Midnight navy/Teal Air Jordan 5 releasing this year. Many people dubbed it the "Hornets" color way because its striking resemblance to Michael Jordan's current NBA team, but this shoe was actually made in 1990 and was scrapped when Nike decided to release the Grape Air Jordan 5 instead.

Was it fate or irony that these Jordan's are able to see the light of day 25 years later and still make sense?

Nick De Paula of Nice Kicks was able to link up with Jordan Brand to dig in the archives and pull out the 1990 "Pre-Grape" Air Jordan 5 sample. Although they're cracked and the uppers are deteriorating, you can see how closely the 2015 version compares to the OG.
